I slammed into one of these big beasts on a night liason a couple of years ago, way out west of Mount Carbine Nth Qld. I survived (just), the beast survived (probably a headache) but my ktm rally bike was sadly a mess.

Glad you enjoyed the ride report RX.. :thumb

Absolutely no reason why you couldn`t do a similar trip to this one mate.. Plan the trip far enough ahead and schedule everything else around it.. I think we fall too easily into the trap of looking at our diary for the next 3 - 6 months, seeing that it is either fully booked or filling fast and thinking that we are far too busy to get away.. If you have a look at the diary at the year 2011/12, you will see many blank pages that can be booked now for your trip.. Once you have worked out the dates and booked them, tell a few people about your plans so that you can`t find reasons to not go.. Booking that far ahead may seem like another life time away but it comes around soon enough.. Planning so far in advance also gives you plenty of time to save for the trip, organise everything you will need and gives everyone around you time to get used to the idea that you will be away for a while..

So, what year will we expect you??

I just stumbled upon your adventure and just finished reading it in the last week or so:clap. What an adventure, and the beauty of your country is more than I thought it could be. Thanks you for taking the time to do the report, it ALMOST felt as though I was riding along with you.

:norton Great ride report mate... didn't get much work done the last couple of days reading it all. Great photo's. A couple of Cairns lad's will be on the long road from early September, to make the Grand Prix at the Island in October. Keen to chat to others or share the ride with some like minded soles along the way.

And you have inspired me to write up our trip around the South Island, wrong way round tour from Feb 2009. Stay upright and stay posted.

Amazing! I followed a report about a couple of guys doing it on scooters a few years back, Right Around Australia. It was partially to raise money for the Cure Cancer Australia Foundation. It was fun to follow that one, makes me want to jump on a bike and follow suit some day. For now, Texas is my Australia...

You will have the perfect bike for it Johnnie.. :thumb

Best way to make a trip like this happen is to place a date on a Calendar and then work towards it.. I gave myself two years to get everything organised and that time came around very quickly..

Hard to believe its been 3 years since I did this one, maybe its about time I thought about doing it again.. :deal

Enjoy your new bike mate.. :clap

    Hi Nev,

Great report mate just been reading through it as I am about to embark on adventure of my own around Oz. I am actually a amputee too riding with a prosthetic and am curious to know if the bloke you met is on ADV Rider Forum as would be good to get some advice off him about touring.

Looking forward to reading the rest of your report mate keep up the good work!

Dammit Nev, you got me looking back on my trip report as well :bow or rather more importantly, planning my next trip around Oz!!

Really should make an EPIC ADV ride-around oz with other ADV'ers, and our friend Andrew can do up some funky stickers to go with it :thumb

    G`day Skusey..

Great to hear you`re heading off on your own adventure mate, I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I did on mine.. :clap

I`m not too sure if the guy you`re referring to is an ADVRider member, I know he wasn`t at the time I met him but who knows if he has since joined.. He lives in Frankston from memory so could ask a few inmates from around that area to see if they know of him.. The prosthetic leg didn`t slow him any and delighted to say that he rode in areas I wouldn`t attempt in a group let alone by myself.. Can still remember how excited he was describing what he was doing and what he had been through, its a shame he didn`t share his story here with us, it would have been one hell of a good read.. I`ll ask around and see what I can find out and send you a pm if I get his details.. :thumb

If you head off before I get back to you, have a good one.. :clap :clap

    G`day vOOdsy.. :wave

Really enjoyed your ride report as well mate, brought back some fond memories following it.. :thumb

Once you do a trip like this, its very hard not to think about another one isn`t it?? Spending a few relaxing weeks on a bike just watching the World go by is nothing short of sensational.. Don`t think I have enough Brownie Points stored up in that jar to be allowed to do another just yet but will again one day..

Keep us posted with your plans mate, sounds like another great trip in the making.. :clap

Nev, I realise that your trip was undertaken and completed a couple of years ago already (yep, time does friggin fly don't it?!). However the photos, your experiences, emotions, feelings and thoughts, which your thread embodies and which you have articulated so well, is brilliant.
    :clap

It takes me back to around 2000-2003 when I was fortunate enough to be living and working in OZ for 3 years. Having bought a Ford escort van that had been customised into a miniature panelvan by one enthusiastic young guy in Perth, and later a XF Ford Falcon wagon, I was able to also circumnavigate most of OZ in various stages as I worked my way round in various hospitals. Perth, Carnarvon, Geraldon, Port Hedland, Broome, Alice Springs & Sydney to name a few. Your photos bought back quite a few memories, places I saw and the people I worked with and met.
    :D

I've been working and living in Asia (with a short stint in the Middle East) ever since, and have ridden some pretty big rides (and loads of smaller ones) in China which is quite a contrast to what OZ has to offer. Looking to move back to OZ/NZ (kiwi boy is me) in the near future and your ride report is kicking me into high gear to do just that.

Thanks again, for making the effort (which I can appreciate) to put all the photos into order and start typing about your travel experiences - in hindsight. Bloody brilliant!
