I was happy to see this thread come back to life because it gave me an excuse to read it all over again. Doing so led to questions. Has she finished her degree? Has she decided where to relocate? Corvallis? Arcata? Somewhere else? That's the problem of drawing people in - we want to know the rest of the story.

My favorite photo and part of your trip. I've blasted past your age but not yet caught up to those guys. Great inspiration to stay off the couch and keep truckin' on.

I missed this thread the first time. How'd that happen? Glad it got bumped.

Yes, I completed my degree. :clap

No, I don't know where to next, but I'm leaving right now to go explore. :D

I'll write a ride report when I get back (probably Sept.).

Seems like I read through here you're looking for VW camper.....

You may already know, but a good place to check for good deals on nice Westy vans is www.TheSamba.com. I've been thinking of getting one too and I've found some REALLY nice ones on there. Like this one, or this one. I know that the guy that owns Cycoactive in Seattle at least used to own a Westfalia van that he hauled a bike on the back of (don't know if he still has it). Not sure how he mounted up the rail, but I know a VW can haul at least one hanging off the back. A kids bike could easily ride inside.

Looking forward to reading about your next adventure. I have yet to pack a sleeping bag on the back of my bike. One of these days I'll be doing that.

I know this isn't the place for this, but I'll gladly take the spankings from the mods if it works out and I get on the road sooner, rather later.

I'm in need of a front and rear sprocket, but everything I've been able to come up with on my own looks like a week out.

I'm currently in Grants Pass, Oregon (great trip so far, btw), and need a front (14 tooth) and rear (43 tooth) sprocket for a 2000 Kawasaki KL250 (G4) Super Sherpa.

I'm not very knowledgeable about online parts sites, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ms. Chiff

You're just up the road from Motorcycle Superstore in Medford. I looked up sprockets. This appears to be the correct front sprocket:

    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/2/10/211/9924/19417/PITEM/Moose-Racing-520-Chromoly-Steel-Front-Sprocket-2000-Kawasaki-KL250-Super-Sherpa-Parts.aspx

    Their number is 877-668-6872.

    ------

I've found the rear at Sprocket Specialists in Oroville, CA (NorCal, near Chico and south of Redding). They should be one day shipping away from you if it's in stock...2 days max. I looked up the part number in their downloadable catalog.

Here is the link - though there isn't much there:

    http://sprocketspecialists.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=2159

    Phone number is: 800-782-8200

I've bought from Motorcycle Superstore numerous times and have never had a problem. I've bought from Sprocket Specialists once and didn't have a problem.

Hopefully there will be someone local there in grants Pass who can help you more quickly, but if not, the above are pretty good options that are fairly close to you and should be able to get you the parts quickly.

Hope this helps! PM me if there is anything else I can do.

If you were closer to Albany or Corvallis, I bet my daughter could get them for you quickly (she's a bike mechanic there). Grant's Pass is too far south for that, but you might try Medford.

Have fun on your trip. I'll be thinking of you when I change my chain and rear sprocket on the Sherpie next weekend :D

Thanks Nodaclu, Motorcycle Superstore has the front and can get the rear by next Thursday (that's a week from tomorrow), so I'm still working on it.

Oh, and btw, I'm not on the side of the road. I'm staying in the little house behind Malagato's in Grants Pass, Oregon. My bike is torn apart in the shop... my clothes are washed and hanging in the sun... grilled steaks and corn for dinner... cold beer in the fridge... it's really not so bad for me. :D

Pete just suggested we BBQ out in the back yard this Saturday afternoon(Aug. 16). Adv'ers are invited and welcome. If your'e in close enough riding distance, come on over and bring something to throw on the grill and maybe a chair.

Hmmm., maybe I should post this somewhere other than at the end of last year's ride report. :lol3

    Any suggestions? Regionals?

Oh, and feel free to pm either Malagato or me for the address.

Kientech Engineering (kientech.com) is in Grant's Pass...They're DR only, but Jesse is such a friendly and helpful guy that maybe he could scrounge something up quicker than a week.

No problem! Bummer to hear that the rear sprocket is so far out. Did you have any luck with Sprocket Specialists on the rear one?

My first thought when you said you were in GP was that you were possibly at Pete's - based on last year's trip report. :D I'd love some BBQ - but unfortunately I'll be in the area about 3 weeks late. :D

I'm not sure how long you plan to be on the road, but I'll be doing this starting September 2nd. I'd be honored to meet you if our paths have the opportunity to cross. :1drink

Wow, Ward! That's very generous. I found a front sprocket that I think will work and a chain. I'm hoping to get a used rear sprocket in the mail today or tomorrow (Fri, Sat), but if it doesn't arrive I'll take you up on the offer. Thanks.

I've been spending a little time (probably more than is considered normal, but...) looking over my maps, and at just how much of Eastern Oregon I haven't seen. How does mid next week sound? :ear

I'll pm you with more details as I know them.

Looking forward to it! :webers (I just love this place :D )
