A mod was required too the airbox as the cam on the 701 sits at rear of cyc head (balance shaft sits at front) the tappet cover fouled on floor/underside of airbox ,was close but airbox sent away too be fixed/modified.Fired the bike up but no road test, sounds very snappy and strong and i am sure it will be a good hp engine with the 41mm fcr/oem rallye airbox and free flowing exhaust system.Looking forward to going for a ride on it........coolest bikes ever

Swapped over the 690rfr flywheel too the 701 engine, used the ktm stator /cover.The pulser pick-upl assembly from the 701 is generic with the rfr harness etc so it was not changed.

Is it possible to buy or does anyone have a 690 RFR frame and swing arm or first generation 450 Rally Repilca frame and swing arm for sale?

You can buy new frames from KTM (ordered through your dealer), but you will need to supply the cut off headstock with the VIN for it.

My 690 RFR was rebuilt at the factory with a carbed 450 RFR frame so I am guessing that they either supply those instead now, or they allow you to update. Mine has the original VIN engraved in it, new set of VIN stickers etc.

The 450 RFR frame allows you to use either 450 or 690 engine with the right hangers, and either rear tank setup (with a set of spacers for the 690 RFR tank because it is wider). Definitely the way to go if you are getting a new one IMO, saves you having to cut and modify the rear of the 690 RFR frame for the 450 tank.

    Hello Lukas,

Let me first start off by saying I enjoy following your travels on social media. Second I just finished up with a motorcycle parts supplier in Europe about ordering a new frame and they said pretty much the same thing. I will need to source a RFR or 450 Rally frame that has been damaged in order to get the VIN off of it. So for now that is what I will be working on. If I may ask if you happen to come across one or know someone who has one would you please let me know?

    Thank you,

    Paul Moore
