Hey all ... long time reader, and first time poster here ... all the way from sunny South Africa. Picked up my 690 RFR last week.
    She's a 2007 model, in a fairly reasonable condition.

I have a few questions if anyone would be willing to help:

    1) Does anyone have a workshop repair / service manual. I have the owners manual.
    2) What sort of service intervals would you recommend for adv riding ... every 5000 km's ?

Want to give her the once over before taking her on a trip.

    Thanks
    Mark

As far as I am aware there is no repair manual for the Rally. It's not exactly a complex bike however, you will be able to figure out almost everything by looking at the microfiche.

The Owners Manual has all the torque specs, and the 690 Enduro/SMC Repair Manual works fine for rebuilding the engine, minimal differences.

Fixed some little wiring issues I need donefor the roadworthy today,
    FYI
Fix 1 ,if you need a rear brake switch get one from a 640 /625 and extend the cable

Fix 2 , the dash globes are crap ,order the 2012+ FI lamp (led) splice it in or use JWC connector ( little white ones use for indicators)

    Cheers

Got a ride in on bike with the 701 husky engine and very happy with it.Engine is very responsive and smooth, the gearing from rfr engine 16/44 was bit tall in higher gears on the 701 so 16/50 now.

Hi All.. some advice needed. I'm looking for a RTW adventure bike and I'm very much inspired by LPR bikes like Basil. But there is very limited offers of 690rfr's here in Europe or selling prices start at €20k+. Now there is a larger offer off 450 rfr's for prices starting at €10k range. Do you guys know how much work and parts are in volved fitting a 690 engine into 450 rfr from 2011-2014. I know it technical would fit because frames are almost identical but don't know which parts you all need besides the engine and mounting brackets.

    Thanks,
    Sam

Not a bad way to go nowadays, considering the big price difference and limited supply of 690 RFRs. Big advantage is that you don't need to to any welding or frame modifications and you already get the right rear tank, seat and tank brackets (that conversion from 690 to 450 cost me about €2400 just for the parts). Besides the engine with mounts, other parts that are different are the exhaust system, engine wiring harness and CDI, although you might be able to adapt them if you copy the right map on it, since both bikes are carbed and very simple. Same with the carb, both use a 41mm with TPS, one is just a bit shorter and has a smaller intake bell, so could likely be adapted.

Get yourself the parts diagrams for both models and then put together a more detailed list. I can send them to you if you don't have them.
