gonna go poke a stick at a standard later just to see what its about and they said they dont expect another production run until September apparently so basically dont expect a bike until sometime next year (maybe not til middle even) if you're interested and not on a list somewhere already. I think this is a kind of underhanded way for KTM to sell standards and that upgraded WP suspension setup, they had to know it'd be this popular but whatever maybe I'm just a tinfoil hatter when I suggest that, who knows

Just bought my 790 Adv, its definitely not that much different then a very good spec'd out dual sport. The suspension travel on the non-R is the same as my BMW GSA.....Cant wait to get it dirty!

Today I called with several dealers around Munich. Everyone said that the R is completely sold out for this year.

Spotted a 790R in stock at R2R in Medellin, Columbia.

Second time I've seen one in person outside of the test version at the Deer Valley UT KTM Rally.

Salesman Daniel was very excited to talk about the bike even though we had some Spanish : English conversion.

A recent client demo dirt crash revealed good side protection (tank) although headlight unit, tank protectors, footpeg and exhaust took most of the damage. A specific unexpected point of damage was the unprotected rear ABS cable ripped/torn as it's just hanging out there unprotected. Maybe some aftermarket vendor could figure something out, in the meantime ziptie it out of the way of the planet coming in contact!

The bashplate / engine case attachment points remind me of the rubber/bolt isolators on a Triumph Tiger 800XC I used to have. One good rock smack on the bashplate broke a couple of them off and they needed to be replaced. I was much more careful around ground obstacles after that (until breaking the case open on a tree).

Also noticed a drain attached to the tank protector, not sure what this was.

Was good to see one with consideration of initial reports coming in and some detail pics to share.

Silly question, but do you think its possible to swap the electronic forks from a 1290s to the standard 790 adv?

I'm sure that's a bit of an electronic nightmare, unless we learn that they share a core wiring harness and ECU. Seriously doubt it. Just a feature i miss from my old 1190s

No chance! There are several computers on these bikes and they all need to be coded to each other or nothing works. Even if it did the setting would be completely wrong for the 790

    If you care:
1190 will lose a top gear roll-on contest against 1200 GS WC (by a hair).
1290 will make BMW rider feel inadequate. :lift

The KTM center stands (both S and R) currently don't show available to US dealers until January 22 of 2020.
