First write up here, but here goes.... We plan on embarking on the TAT August 11 from Pennsylvania, and driving an RV with a Fema Hud (leftover Hurricane Katrina) trailer attached hauling bikes. With 8 of us, we looked at shipping... 6-800 bucks a piece, out of the question... then to figure out how to get them back, and fly back for some of us. Thats probably 1000 a ticket at a spur of the moment , so who knows how long this is gonna take. So, we figured buy something here and take it out. Uhaul didn't have anything big enough, other than a truck, but how will 8 of us get there, So, i started watching insurance auctions, and i found this 32 foot fema trailer. 750 bucks later, a fresh set of tires, and a sledge hammer fixed this thing right up. I knocked down a wall, smashed a sink and took out a smelly sofa. What to do with this thing is the problem when we get there, so since i'm in the same business, I called a local towing facility in Oregon and asked him if he just wanted it to store stuff in, he said sure.. so, thats the plan. we get out there, and its his...

The bike of choice is the DRZ 400... we all bought them, one guy bought 4 brandy new ones last fall for his family. We did a couple over nighters in practice, (ok, guys not me) i dont camp well. but they survived the snow showers. If in doubt, i'll take a room, and warmth.... i'm 50......

2nd.jpg guess i should introduce the guys.. and one female (my wife) 4 guys are from Jersey, i'll let them introduce themselves later.. this is an early thread, because people keep asking how they can keep track of us.. so, here we go.. i'm 50.. she's a bit younger.. 132.jpg ... she wants kids, so, i have a bucket list... the tat is one of them.. so, its probably kids after this ride for me.. just can't live forever ..not to mention i have a bhr hip.. birminghap hip resurfacing.... broke the neck of my femur at age 37 racing motocross... pins and screws, and a couple surgerys later, i get a bhr... supposed to be the active hip... its been great.. i have 10 years on this hip and no regret.... life expectency 10 years.......i could go on and on about some of my previous endeavors, like a tour guide in russia and ukraine.. but this isn't the time and place for that.....but my wife loves cycles, and rides a crf450x as a fun bike.. (recently she did a 24 hour race with 4 other girls in ny) awesome event by the way... called the northeast 24, they finished 2nd...www.dirtbikegirladventures.com We ride hatfield McCoy trails mostly, and local poker runs, We even got married at the Hatfield McCoy trails..

Sorry I have been quiet.. Last minute preparations on the trailer and bikes. drilled holes in the floor, were trying to fit 8 bikes in 21 feet wide. gonna have to put one backwards.. trailer still has a toilet and shower and sink.. i think i'm gonna have to break out the sledge for another few feet i say.. Installed new tires on the trailer, Found out my wife cracked her rotor on her last dismount, so got that ordered, 10 days and counting.. i'll post up pics of the bikes loading and the gang. and the trip out.. we're hoping we can do it non stop except for two maybe 3 fuel stops.. we have 7 drivers with a 40 foot rv and a 32 foot trailer.. thats two 4 hour shifts each. one bed, one pull out sofa, and several chairs.. and a big frig....tick tock....tick tock...9.5 days now.... some guys have to work until 3 on the 11th, we should be on our way by 4.

OK, I'm in for the long haul. Sounds like you and your wife have a lot of dirt riding time but how about the other 6 riders?
