The 8th Annual WMRS Ride in Bishop, CA.

Thursday August 2 thru Sunday August 5. (some folks show up on Wednesday)

So do you want to ride to over 12,000 ft? See great vistas and take great pictures? Then this ride is for you!!!!

DO NOT SEND ME ANY MONEY, THIS IS A " UN RALLY ". YOU WILL PAY FOR CAMPING AND DINNER YOURSELF.

DO NOT CALL THE CAMP GROUND

IT WILL BE COLD AT NIGHT

AND YES, THEIR ARE STILL COWS ON THE ROAD

Ok Ladies and Gentleman ( and I use the term loosely :lol3 ), Boys and Girls, ADV Riders of all ages! It is time to announce the 8th annual WMRS Ride in Bishop, CA.

Once a year the White Mountain Research Station has an open house. Located in the Bristle cone Pine Forest, this is the only time of the year that you can ride all the way up to the station and check it out ( 13K ft ). It is always the first Sunday in August, this years ride dates are 08-02-12 thru 08-05-12, with the open house (would have been) on Sunday 08-05-12 but CA is broke. we will still hold the rally, you can still ride up to the White Mountain, but there will be no open house this year, no hot chocolate. The area is loaded with great dual sport riding and camping. This a great weekend of riding the high country , with much cooler temps. I will be making the trip, hope you can join me. The pic reports below say it all.

Info On White Mountain Research Station:

White Mountain Research Station, with its principal office located in the Owens Valley near Bishop, was established in 1950 to provide laboratory facilities for any qualified research investigator wishing to utilize the high-mountain environment for his or her work, and to serve as teaching facilities for field courses conducted in the region. There are four separate laboratory sites: one in the Owens Valley; a second at Crooked Creek, at an elevation of approximately 10,000 ft (2,090 m); a third at the base of Mt. Barcroft, at an approximate elevation of 12,500 ft (3,801 m), making it the 11th highest high-altitude station in the world and the fourth highest in North America; and a fourth, the Summit Laboratory, atop White Mountain Peak, at an elevation of 14,246 ft (4,340 m). The Summit Laboratory is the fourth highest high-altitude research facility in the world and the highest in North America.

    CAMPGROUND

    DO NOT CALL THE CAMPGROUND!!!
I have spots for 100 + ADV Riders reserved. Also the Camp Ground is located at 7,000 ft. The nights can be cool, that's we use it. Also their are COWS on the road, that's why they call it "Open Range"

Again, this year we will be using The Browns Owens River Campground.
    http://www.brownscampgrounds.com/owens.html
It is located on the Benton Crossing Rd ( also known as the Green Church Rd ) 6 miles east of US 395. Turn East at the Green Church just north of Crowley Lake and just south of the Mammoth Airport. The campground has showers available from 8 am until 4pm, very clean restrooms, and a small store with Beer and Ice. They also have a grill for Breakfast and Lunch.
$23 per day for a pick up
with trailer or a motor home.
$10 for motorcyclists that ride in OR a solo pick up/van
    .
Pay at the store when you arrive. This campground can handle RV's of any size. If you like to fish, bring your gear. The Fly fishing is fantastic here. FYI this campground " Does Not Take Credit Cards" ( no land line, but cell phones work great ), but they will take a check and of course cash.

PM me or post if your in and I'll put you on the list :deal

I JUST HIGHLIGHTED ALL THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION IN YELLOW.

keep in mind this is an unRally.
come out and ride with friends new and old.
the ride up to the top of WMRS on Sunday is not an organized ride.
but it is the day that WMRS has the OPEN HOUSE (of course they're in limbo with State funding) so that is the day we all ride up, but this is NOT a group ride.

    you are responsible for yourself.

BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING. TOOLS. TUBES. WARM WEATHER GEAR. COLD WEATHER GEAR. EXTRA PARTS. ETC.

there is a motorcycle shop in Bishop that carries Honda and Yamaha products.
    http://www.goldenstatecycle.com/

there's a repair shop in Mammoth. no parts for sale or store front, but there are mechanics on hand.
    http://www.mammothmotorsports.com/

these shops have normal motorcycle shop days/hours. closed Sunday and Monday.

there will be 100+ riders so you will find someone to ride with.

RV's are welcome. there is tons of space.

riding in, trucking in, whatever. just get there and have a good time.

    elevation is....

4K in Bishop. 7K at camp. 8K in Mammoth. 12+K at White Mountain Research Station(Barcroft Station).

the weather can be 100 degrees in Bishop and 70 in Mammoth and 45 at the top of White Mountain. dress in layers.

this is the post about being a parent and pressing the rules of the campground.... which i don't want to fucking do, but there are some that need reminding.

ride slowly thru camp and obey the camp's posted speed limit.

no burnouts, no drifting, no riding off the gravel road, no riding on the path to the bathroom, no thinking you are a trials rider and riding over the camp logs, don't set yourself on fire.

no riding the large dirt hill behind the camp site. it's tempting and there are no posted signs, but trust me, don't ride it.

try to keep the dust down by riding slowly in and around camp.

    obey quiet hours.

let's hope so, but even if the White Mountain Research Station is not doing an open house this year, the unRally is still going on and we can ride up on Sunday up to the top gate (which is pretty far up).:deal

We'll kick their green asses back to Mars!!!!!! :freaky

... and get in some epic riding, too, of course. :D

The ride to the top of the hill is something everyone should do at least once, Silver Canyon is epic. There's also a load of excellent riding towards Mammoth on the ATV trail and such...
