Cowee Mt Overlook
I rode from Little Switzerland to Cherokee on day 3. My intention was to eat at Granny's Kitchen.. Note to self and others Granny's is closed on Mondays! I hopped back on the BRP and back to my splurge for the trip the Pisgah Inn. At $180 a night is more than I like to spend, but I got the last room so they must be doing something right. I literally has the last room on the end. The view could use some trimming, but still pretty nice.
The view from the deck outside of the restaurant.
I am not sure if I just missed a wedding or if it was just a photo shoot for one.
I've done this trip several times in my 2 seater convertible (As close to a MC as you can get - Last time I only put the top up for brief rain showers and at night) all camping. It was the smallest RV out there. Skyline Drive, BlueRidge, Tail of Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, then back. At the time I never ever thought about getting a MC, I just wanted them to get out of my way, I needed the twisties. Driving 45 was pulling teeth and I rarely did. I did feel bad passing people, felt like a big Richard, but trying to make 375 - 400 miles a day to the next campsite needed a bit more average. Now that I started riding a MC, I'm looking at this trip from a 2 wheeler - soon. Also since getting a MC, thinking about, watching YouTubes about the TAT, I was right around it when down south. That's another out there someday now.
They have updated the rooms since the last time I stayed there.
The view from the room with better lighting.
A stop at one of my favorites, Chestoa Overlook.
Actually, I think a 2 seater convertible would be a good way to see the BRP. Rains ..roof up...cold...heat on.. Yours isn't white is it? I think thats the only car i ever pulled over to let him get ahead of me :)
bwhahaha excellent :) i have an f but looking at x or nc750 next
im visiting LA MS TN NC in september and looking at the pics from last sept it looks like a lottery - gonna be in maggie valley and asheville and looking at doing blue ridge from balsam to cherokee - maybe a bit more
am i gonna get cloud and mist or might i get lucky (im in a car)
i have a week (limey)
September is when I like to ride the BRP, and especially the southern end around Pisgah, Maggie Valley, Asheville and the Smokies. The weather is beautiful in September, even way up on Balsam Mountain. I haven't encountered much rain in September, but I did suffer terribly rainy days on visits in July and in October. (Take it from me, don't ride in the Smokies during October.)
However: I did cancel a planned trip to that area last September. Hurricane Florence hit the Carolinas and caused flooding and road closures as far inland as the mountains.
There was supposed to be road closures. Everyone cancelled their trips. The brp was wide open with not a soul on it. My ride buddy cancelled the week prior sighting the storm. I said it’s gonna go West..... it did. I rubbed it in on him bad. Sorry to do the same lol
I spent a night at Willville Motorcycle Camp. I got the small cabin for just a bit more than it would have cost me to stay in on of the parkway campgrounds. I recommend checking this place out if you are in the area. http://www.willvillebikecamp.com/
Taking a break at one of the overlooks.
