I ended up spending 2 nights in Cherokee due rain. I have been staying at the Pink motel for the last several years.
It shows its age, but is priced right and is right on the river.

Had to stop and get a pic at the highest point since it was the 850adv's first time.

I feel like the world went to hell since my last trip or even since my last post on this thread.
I have decided to head down the BRP probably around the 10th of October. The leaf change forecaster says:

Oct 10-20 Peak time for elevations from 4,000 - 5,000 feet. This would include almost all Blue Ridge Parkway locations and the majority of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as well. Included in this elevation are the Boone and Blowing Rock areas.

Expect fun-sapping levels of traffic. I "rode" 441 through the park in the second week of October 2014. Bumper to bumper traffic in the rain. It took more than three hours to cross the park, and I think that stretch of 441 is about 40 miles. Never again.

I was on the Parkway all last week, weather went from great, to not so great then back to great! After 5 days of 6 hours a day in the saddle I was beat but oddly invigorated.

For the bicyclists in the group: most of the climbing was done using 34/28, 34/32 to get a breather , 6 mph climbing speed, so not that bad. Max V on the downhills was 38 mph and only by mistake, I am a wimp, even with Disc brakes.

Very friendly drivers mostly, gave me room as required.

You Sir have my deepest respect. Riding a bicycle up and down those mountains can not be easy.

The 2020 trip was delayed because of a tropical storm and ultimately was cut short because of another one. Otter creek was closed so I went to Peaks of Otter to find the camp ground full! I have never see it even close to that. I wish I had taken a pic, but it was getting dark and I need to find a place to stay. I finally made it to this place just after dark. Despite the sign the room and owners were pretty nice.

The next morning was rainy and very foggy on the parkway. I finally made it to Tuggles gap and decided to spend the night.

I love the place and throwback dinning room. But, last time it as closed. I think in 2019. So I stayed at the Gucci hotel in downtown Floyd. Good to know they are still open.

I ate breakfast there.....8-10 yrs ago? Nice little place! Then I saw it was closed or up for sale.
Anybody know status for this year?
Watched some live music in Floyd 2 yrs ago at the General Store. Lots of 'character' in that town!
