Yep it is still open. I forget the ladies name, but she has always been super nice to me. It has been for sale for a few years. I think if someone had the money to invest in upgrading the hotel side of things they would have a little gold mine.

I had a reservation at Little Switzerland so I went on down to Mount Mitchell.

[IMG] I took a look at the weather and it was calling for several days of hard rain so I decided to head towards home.

Some of my pics from Tuggles Gap Motel. I love the place in a number of ways. They have gas, off the BRP...literally almost on the BRP, food, beer, and lodging. Once you're out of your gear, you can just chill and enjoy the sunset.

Cheri Baker is the wonderful lady. I believe she was daughter of original owner. Yup, the place would be a gold mine with some renovation. Very few places so close to BRP. Also Floyd is a good stopping point in general. The place is so peaceful.

Tuggles Gap could be like Big Lynn Lodge in Little Switzerland on the BRP. Stayed there back in 2019. Another self contained place. Although, closest gas is up the road at the Walmart. But otherwise beautiful views, great rooms, dinning room , and more. Some pics.

    :-)

Huge fan of the Tuggles Gap place, always worth a stop. Especially when their pie selection is fully stocked. Good place to meet fellow riders of various stripes.

Just my opinion: For overnight accommodations, nearby Floyd is worth leaving the Parkway bubble. Beds in Floyd are limited, so plan ahead. Big crunches are Virginia Tech events and local music fests.

On the way home I camped at Peaks of Otter. Had the place almost to myself.

A few years ago I was doing the Skyline, Blue Ridge, Tail of the Dragon in my 2 seater convertible, camping and driving. Stopped at Peaks of the Otters for the first night. As I'm driving around looking for a camp spot, There sitting at a camp site was a big old Bear Trap. Seems that there was a bit of a bothersome bear wandering the camp grounds that the park service was trying to catch. It made sitting by myself at the fire a bit un-nerving with every sound of nature. Good thing they have bear boxes

I believe there was one there this year too. Not set, but sitting there in the host spot.

I seem to always snap a picture of this place. I feel like I am documenting it's demise.
