depending on how much ethanol is in the gas and how I am riding, I get between 30mpg and 45mpg - open or closed muffler, prefilter or not, all that is less relevant than how "real" the gas is that I am getting around here. Seems that in town, there are only a few stations that don't sell you the dilluted crap.

Yesterday's ride around Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams gave up 42.53 mpg with Shell premium. The fuel light came on at 196 miles. I have FMF silencers and I've not re-jetted it yet. It was a mix of pavement, gravel, dirt roads.

Yesterday was a beautiful day in the PNW and I know that my smileage :D
    was very high also.

    Cheers, M-G

It is possible to squeeze 6.0 gallons in the 950 but 5.8 is standard when filling to bottom of fuel caps.

'06 950, stock pipes, stock carb settings, stock everthing, except canisterectomy, SAS removal, touring (tall) windscreen with (ugly) Gobi bags, one rider, mixed riding, i.e. interstate and (Atlanta) city traffic, speed up to 90+ miles/hour  when possible...

Fuel light comes on between 160 - 170 miles...

    36-38 mpg :ksteve

Not much data on the 990s in this thread. Sounds like the 950s get around 200 miles per tank full on average. Sounds like 990s only get around 150 miles per tank full. Is this worse milage on the new bike or is there a fuel pump in the tank taking up space? I rode a new 990 Super Duke recently and the new 990 motor felt smoother and snappier than my 06 950 Adv S. Didn't try it off road though but it seems like KTM is improving them slowly. But if the milage is worse on the fuel injected models I'll stick with the 950s for now. Discarding the huge grin factor compared to my old 04 Tiger and a buddys GS1200, our KTM milage sucks compared to these. Generally, going to FI improves crispness and milage. If an 1190 comes out, at that rate milage will be awful. Good thing these bikes are so much fun!

I've been playing with the jetting on my 950 and hoping it will improve my mileage. The absolute furthest I've gone is 148 miles to the fuel light. Riding more dirt (my usual riding) my fuel light comes on at 109 miles to 120 miles. She's been really rich since I bought the bike- it was jetted for sea level and I'm at 7,000 feet here at home.

I've been tracking the mpg these past few months on my 05.5 stock (minus the cats) and it has been very consistant between 40-42 mpg for in-town and tour riding (this includes 2-up). Off-road drops to the mid 30 range.

I think its the oposite, its a 950 thread and I've been reading a lot and only found brief information on the MPG's of the 990 FI.

probably because the answers would be in the same ballpark - anything between 25 and 50mpg, depending on terrain, gearing, gas quality, riding style, tire pressure, tire type, weather, altitude, and rider's attitude.

The bikes weigh the same and have virtually the same motor. How the amount of fuel you need to move it gets into the motor makes very little difference in the big picture. You'll see a bigger difference just by staying away from that ethanol-dilluted crap

If your bike purchasing decision depends on the fuel economy, I think you're looking at the wrong bike here. A DR200 gets about 75mpg any day.

The fuel light will come on mine 990/06 at arround 170 miles.

Depending on the riding style, it can be also more - this summer in Romania i did almost 200 miles of slow driving without the fuel light going on.

Silly, but my friend with his 990/06 (both stock) will get an average 15-20miles les before the fuel light.

New 07 SE, 1st tank, 37mpg, in town stop and go commuting. My 05 2500HD with a 6.0 gets 12. I'll happily take the 37.
