Possibly Richo. Wouldn't mind giving it a bit of a trial. See If I want to take it on the bigger haul with Dave the following weekend.
May have to change the rear tyre though, I don't think that one will make it back from the servo.
I made up a carbon / kevlar bashplate for my SE but didn't get it finished before heading off to Asia with the bike. I must get around to finishing it, eh? I built it to allow tool storage down beside the cases. Probably wouldn't do that again.

Trouble is, I also want to do a new seat / rack setup. The rack I made back then worked - but it was ugly. I loaded it with as much as 260 kg without cracking the subframe (three of us on a pub crawl around Mae Sot). I know what I want to do.... just don't want to spend the month mucking around with carbon again, getting it right. To do that again, I'd make the rack and seat base in one piece. The original idea was just to take the load away from the subframe and transfer it to the main frame. Like I said, it worked.
Last trip to Asia, I spent a month mucking around with welders up there, getting the damn cracked subframe from my EXC rebuilt in steel.
Well took the 950 out for its first proper outing, with me anyway.
Hit the High Country with about, maybe, 180k's of trails with some bitumen and the ride from home thrown in, probably 340 or so for the day.
Well it has a miss that I need to sort, it's missing on rougher ground, predominantly hills, I was thinking floats but I'm tending towards electrical connection more now. Will get it sorted, but any suggestions welcome.
Buuuut it's nice. Great for High country type riding, loves a loose rocky uphill and that medium rough rocky shit it does very well on. Nice down hills for a big bike. Cornering, I need to get sorted, that's between me and the bike.
It was said by a couple that I was riding it more quickly than my 690, which surprised me but we will see.
A couple of issues though.
Fuel is not so good, 250k's (including that 180) of mixed riding for a mere 22 l. Well I didn't buy it for the economy.
Where do I put the spare tyres? I put a half worn Tractionator HT ( a tyre that is good for thousands on the 690) on it because the new one didn't turn up, well that is nearly down to the carcass now.
It would appear that I'm spinning it up without really knowing it (other times I know it) but the bike is still tracking nicely whilst shredding a very long wearing tyre.
It is fun though.
Can anyone tell me that has the standard airbox, do you get to hear the note? Because with the Rottweiler there all I hear is induction noise when I open it up, sort of ruins that twin pipe thing.
Standard air box on mine and I don't notice any induction noise just twin pipe goodness
Maybe I'll take the baffles out of the Wings.

So mine has an oiled foam pre filter in front of the airbox.. and runs a stock looking paper filter.
Any thoughts ?
Good stuff Andrew glad you like it , mine has the same set up as Richo foam pre filter and paper filter in a standard air box I get a nice note for the Akros

Took it out for a nice ride after I got the carbs tuned and pollution gear off and pretty happy with it.
I'd keep it stock. I just have the paper. They filter better than foam. Just don't like water. As for the Rottweiler setup, I think it may of been CJ or someone that said on the SE you can just run two K & N pods instead, does the same but cheaper.
Yeah the ktm rally shouldn't see too much water And I'll take a spare filter anyway.
So I had a cracked front rim from my Trip in Alaska,
I decided to swap it out with a spare Husaberg front rim and tyre. Thing just bolted straight on, no spacers, nothing. Just a 1.5 that seems to be much lighter now in the front and steers pretty good.
Standard tank.... fuel light comes on at 115Kms, pretty much empty after 200kms two up.
Yep, the front rim is the same as similar vintage KTM's (ie, 690, even EXC's ) and some Bergs. But the spokes on the SE are substantially heavier guage. Not sure of the overall strength difference, and dunno if Id want to keep the lighter wheel on it too long.
A little bit of functional bling.

I found on a three day ride with a few 1190's that the 1190's were about 10% more fuel efficient than the SE .. consistently
Induction noise without the standard airbox is unavoidable and even with the baffles out, you will still only hear induction. The setup that Richo has on his (standard airbox, paper main filter and UniFilter pre-filter) is a great setup and allows pure V-twin pipe music to the ears.
Also, what necessitated the new rear mid-pipe and the subframe to be re-coated black?
