Here I sit in the SeaTac Terminal, with a 5hr layover, on my way to Salt Lake to pick up a new bike for my wife.

It’s a sweet little dialed-in unit (the bike, not the wife… okay, maybe both) not designed for a long highway haul but here goes.

The Motorcycle is a WR250X that has been converted to an “R” along with a batch of choice items added on. The future holds the TAT, Copper Canyon and the Shadow of the Rockies for this little jewel but the challenge is to get it to the starting point.

As odd as it may sound, the starting point for our TAT trip this coming spring is Ohio so I’m on a self appointed fools mission of riding it from Salt Lake to Toledo starting tomorrow. This could turn out to be more of an adventure than I’m bargaining for.

And yes, I bought new heated gear from Alaska Leather and brought screw-in studs……….

I finally arrived safe and sleep deprived in Salt Lake. By 3:30pm I got to throw a leg over the WR for the first time and it definitely spun up my excitement level. It took a couple of hours to wire up the pigtails, put on the Giant Loop bags and load up my crap. The previous owner, Lonnie, helped me get set up and offered to haul me and the bike down to St. George but I just couldn’t accept the generous offer, there was a new bike sitting there that needed to be ridden.

As the blanket of darkness settled I joined the after work traffic heading South for about 25 miles and decided that a little dinner and sleep might be in order. I’m really impressed with that little 250, it cruises along at 75mph without wringing it’s neck and it handles excellent on the blacktop.

Get it to Denver and I'll stud your tires for you with real studs. At the very least we can throw it on the lift and give it a once-over.

Congratulations on finding such a great looking and well-farkeled bike, Frostbit!

I'm more than a little envious of your wife's new bike and your riding adventure. What route are you planning?

Thanks for the offers of help, it's great to know that this fool has a fall-back position. I'm heading to Farmington MN by way of Moab today. From Farmington I'll head east along the NM/CO border then angle up to Ohio.

Time to get on the road... 28 degrees and dry at the moment.:ricky

Looks like once you get out of Colorado the temps will be in the 60's. St Louis has a high of 77 today. You picked the best week of November to ride.

Frostbit is a total Bad A. Just helping him get the bike ready for the journey in the garage had me frozen solid. He is the real deal and gives honor to the name "ADVrider". So, as my riding buddies and I say here in Utah "Ride crazy and take chances"! That's because we know each other well enough to know none of us have ever listen to sensible advice in our lives. Keep us all posted.
