I love colorado and did some riding out there just a few weeks ago. Nice pics! Too bad that you didn't lay the bike down on the obama sticker though:rofl . I have a klr exactly like yours. BTW the turn signals will brake off during hard bumps, they are having a problem. You will probably get a recall, not sure. Thanks for the report. Brent.

Sounds like fun! Back roads through Colorado, Kansas and Missouri to see this one

Here are a few images I took Sat. afternoon on the way to see Mike Dillon in Telluride. This is Ophir pass. I took a paved road back to Ouray.

That is beautiful country. Been a long time since I've been back there. Can't wait for the Aspen to turn color.
That festival looks fun but I will be out of town on work.....:tb

Hey #1 Fan, Great ride report. I love Salida, and If I didn't love Laramie so much, Salida would be on my short list of lovely places to hang a shingle. I've always loved the art galleries and good food, great riding, lots of public land nearby, and (like Laramie) a whole town full of people who live there because they love it.

Glad I'm not the only KLR650 riding Obama supporter in the Rockies! :thumb I'll be spending a lot of time in the next couple months volunteering in Colorado. (Wyoming's a lost cause, but extra volunteers could help Colorado swing this time.)

You'll have to meet Hayduke and Bonnie Abzug next time you're in Salida. Pop over to the Rockies forum and introduce yourself. We have lots of cool folks around there to ride with.

Great pics of home! In your pic of Kristi, you can see my wife's shop (Beadsong) and my shop is two doors south (FatTees). I know Tyler, too- skied with him alot when I worked up at Monarch. :thumb His "sand road" is great practice. :nod

Stop by and say hello next time you're in town! :beer

Great ride report! I love looking at all the pics. :D

We went through there this summer on a mini-road trip over to Mesa Verde then back to Durango and up to Ouray, where we ended up staying put for a couple days. The views were fantastic, and we saw plenty of riders going through.

We had one hair raising moment on the way up to Ouray where we had to quickly pull over to let a BMW GS get past us with a semi chasing him down the mountainside. My husband said the way it looked in the rearview, he couldn't believe the truck hadn't already hit the guy. We got back on the road and followed them through a few curves and then they were gone - truck still right on the GS's tail.

I can see that being a gorgeous ride, but I have to say the # of trucks going through there doesn't make my heart flutter in a happy way.

My wife and I and another couple are all riding out to Estes next week and then down to Salida on Sunday to stay for a couple days. Any suggestions on places to stay, eat and just sit around would be much appreciated. Never been to Salida, but it looks like a cool place in the middle of some pretty country.

    Thanks,

    Paul

There are a handful of hot springs in the area. Visit them all!!
Also, eat at the Laughing Ladies Cafe. That's the only advice I have for you for food, once you eat there, that's the only place you will want to eat!
Get some dirt riding in. Ride over Marshall pass. Would be a fun ride. have fun and be safe!
