Just Bob, I'll send you a PM
Got it. Thanks.
So I've been contacted by the owner of a really nice 2005 660 rally.
It's about to be put up for sale, if anyone is genuinely interested, pm me.
From what I understand it's been ridden rarely since purchase from ktm in 07 (?) But I think , but can't guarantee, it has Australia Safari pedigree for the first 2 years of its life.
I have all the motorcycles I can afford but a few pics would be nice just for grins.
Hmmm. I still have some spare rooms.
@Dr AT you know this one
I saw that on in Birdsville about 2007 or 8.
Mysteries of the past....
I chatted to @coak via PM. He purchased his own 660 from the UK to compete in Aust Safari in 04, then subsequently sold his bike through Andys shop in Keith in 05? (he might like to chime in here). Carl Fuller, ex KTM does remember the bike at Andys shop, but cant say who it sold to or where. Hes going to see what he can recall though and let me know.
So this bike coming up for sale now, was purchased 2nd hand through Race Motorcycles in Alice in 2005. (Race MC later closed and the KTM dealership went to Desert Edge).
@troy safari carpente , do you reckon you could dig up a copy of the bike entrants list from 04 safari? Maybe that will show who's on 660's, that might help narrow down who had this one. I'm sure I've seen a list previously?
Winna and I once did a bit of a list of how many 660's and 690's are in Oz, being a ex Safari competitor he has lots of contacts.
If you look only at pre 690 bikes, so only 660's 98-2006, theres maybe 12-15?
4 of those are 98's (like Doris) and I know who has all 4.
I have no 2004 start list by my fingertips (at the other house), but going off the fuzzy memory bank, riders of @ that era who had 660's were; AC#10, Coak, Broken Hill Adrian, Dalby Hartley, WA Fitzhardinge, Andy H... did Homer have a 660 - or a warmed over 640 Adv? I don't think Schwarzy ever rode an LC4 Rallye (450 or 660) in a Safari... he was always on set up EXC's as I recall? Woody from Alice maybe?
... there are probably one or two I am missing though the dust and mists of time.
There were a number of European factory riders over over a few years 2000-2004 and even chileans riding factory metal as for a few years Australia's safari gave them points for Dakar qualifying?
I believe homer was on a exc450 kitted up.
Bobs book covers some details, but not all. .
The years before 2000 it shows a number of riders on 620/640 rallys. .... Haydon, Woodberry, Bannister..
I previously also raised the question about a supposed 'spare' factory rally that trailed Sainct around in 96/97...
Carl told me of a German bloke in SA who also had one.
Wonder where they are? Back yard sheds somewhere. ....
Richard Sainct in 1997 (DNF day 2)...
post 2000's there were a few: PG Lundmark
Carlos De Gavardo (450 LC4),
Jean Brucy, Alfie Cox... all aboard factory (supported) KTM LC4 Rallye's of varoius year models.
Yep, but from the book Carlos was on a factory 450.
I'm going to reach out to Woody, former owner of Race MC, with such a rare bike going through his shop, even though it was 15 odd years ago, he may recall.
It makes sense that factory riders from overseas had their bikes brought here and then taken back os after safari.
So it narrows it down perhaps... an Australian full factory or supported rider, ( i think they're all accounted for) or a private import.
Always had a look at race m/c day before flying out for a 28 day shift at the granites Gold mine.
Remember woody showing me the 640 rally bikes that had done the cairns/gold coast safari .
