Well he has just bought another SE, so power is not an issue.
Carl tells me that the later 04 bike 'isnt stock'.... but really didnt elaborate. Id guess compression, head and cam work.
Given that Andy rode the 04 Aust safari with a factory race 701 engine (ie pankel stroked 660 plus other bits) the engine thats in it now (ie orginally fitted from the factory) was also tuned up a touch and kept as a spare. Which he needed as the 701 let go...
Its grunty and torquey, but easy to ride.
Would smoke a stock 690 everywhere. Probably better that then 732 im now running in the 690, but theyre very different bikes in terms of size, weight and ergos, so hard to tell. A straight line drag race may not prove much either way.
I would guess 70hp and better than 60 ftlbs, but only a guess. Winding it on and changing up early it just hauls.
Havent ridden the earlier '99 660 let alone started it.... Winna rode his, said it was a bit disapponting.
BUT, mine (once again) may not be stock. Andy won a few Aust safaris on it, and Channo was right up the pointy end in 03 before he cartwheeled it, so I figure it must be quick.
Bugger it, if we're still in lockdown next weekend, I'll work on getting it running, maybe zoom around the block just to piss the neighbors off. Feeling inspired, although it could just be caffeine....

Richo, your bike. Day 4 2004 safari, Neil hard at it, as well as 2nd mech. The story Andy told me was the engine locked up at +160km. He was tapped out with the end of SS in sight and skidded over the end of stage.
Next night at Broken hill, the bike looks like new and Andy was riding hard all day after a 24 hour penalty he never DNFed.
2nd pic. Im #27, Coak on #3, David on #7, Channo and Andys bikes out of shot. I was let in the tent for 1 night.
I got a photo of Doris as well, when Channo had her. Doris wasn't happy starting that day either. Wore out 3 of us kicking her.

Carl told me about the factory engine blow up, and after fitting the stocker overnight, doing test runs at 5 am.
Neil was Andy's main mechanic, went to Dakar in 03' with him. He can ride too.

Remindeds me of he only time my 640 let me down, was on my way to the 24Hr , the bike ran beautifully all day and stopped for the night at North Bourke, next day I couldn't get the bastard to start.
I was feeling a bit sick the day before and then after trying to kick the bitch for 45 mins I was feeling terrible.
I ended up getting it push started after stripping all the gear off it, it idled fine while I was repacking it and I decided I would just go home because I couldn't risk it not starting again.
Bike ran great all the way home and I didn't have any problems restarting it. Still no idea why it wouldn't start that day, but I did think I could smell ethanol while I was trying to start it even though I only used premium in it. I suspect there was E10 in one of the tanks of fuel I got in a small town.
Funny thing, nearly a year after I got Doris, I still hadn't started it.
Checked it over, charged battery, put fuel and master fuse in, and it started in about 5 seconds of cranking. Idled and revved happily for about 10 minutes.
A month later........ nup, fuck you, I'm not going.
Bastard refuses to roll start too.
See if you can get hold of that can of Aerostart.
