The 500/501 may be the perfect DS travel bike. I had a '17 501 that I used for travel like the Dalton highway and it worked great. When I got home I bought a '18 701 thinking it would be a better highway ride. Since then I traded the 501 in on a '19 TE300i thinking it would be a better mountain bike than the 501. Now, I just got back from riding 10 days in Baja on the 701 pulling a Sherpax trailer. Sure enough, the 701 was very good on the highway, but in the sand it's not as good as the 501, but that might be due to rider inexperience. The 701/690 have a close ratio trans which doesn't help offroad. The 501/500 have a wide ratio and it does seem to be more appropriate for DS riding. I may have to go back to a 501 at some point. At least all the replacement bodywork, lights, and racks fit the 300, so if I do get another 501 I'll have those accessories to put on it for traveling. I look forward to following your ride report. If you get close to T or C, NM please stop by. I have a guest house you can use which is 2 1/2 blocks from our great brewery!

I will be watching and wishing I was there! If you get to Tucson on your way south you are welcome here. A first hand report on the Can to Mex tracks would be great!

I'm VERY in for this one. The bike build so far has been ace :clap Can't wait for this RR to get rolling. Between you and @Aaron.S, I might just trade my TE610 for a KTM :thumb
