Oooo! A 73-75! I found one in that condition about 30 years ago. I cut off the windshield frame, took off the roof and rollbar, and got some rare door bits and converted my 76 Jimmy into a full convertible. Loved that beast.

When I was stationed at Grand Forks AFB I knew a guy that collected 59-60-61 Cadillac's. On his off days he would drive around small towns of North Dakota searching for cars to purchase. He would drive or tow the cars back to base and keep them in the barracks parking lot. After a few months and a collection of several cars the base discovered that he had several cars with DOD stickers in his name. The MP/SP came through the parking lot and inspected his cars, deeming most not drive-a-ble. Base regulation did not allow junk cars to be stored on base and he had to remove all but one. Steve attempted to hid the cars by spreading the cars around the base, Steve got caught. The AF threaten Steve with an Article 15 for failure to follow orders to remove the cars.
Steve gave in and decided that cars needed to be taken to his parents home in south eastern Minnesota. Steve would leave base after his Friday 3-11pm shift, drive all night and take a Greyhound bus back to Grand Forks on Saturday. After a couple trips Steve ask me if I would drive one of his cars, to his parents home, Steve would pay all my cost. Being a bored Airman in God forsaken place, I jumped on the idea of going on a adventure.
I was diving a 61 Cadillac Fleetwood Limo, the car was packed full of car parts that Steve had stipped from cars that he purchased just for parts. Engine block in the trunk, transmission on the backseat floor, pack in place with starters, generators and other small parts. The back seat over the trans, Steve had bumpers and trim. The car was over loaded.
About midnight we were on our way. The car handled very poorly, lots of slop in the steering, suspension would bottom out on small bumps. The car was getting around 4-5 mpg, I was afraid to drive over 50 mph, staying in my lane was difficult. At least I-94 has no sharp curves. We arrived mid day at Steve's parents home. Steve's dad followed us to a farm and we parked the two car in line of trees along with the other two that Steve had moved earlier. Steve's mother fed us lunch and Steve's dad drove us to Minneapolis to catch a Greyhound back to Grand Forks. Rode the Dog all night arriving in Grand Forks Sunday, hitched back to base.
I wonder if the Cadillac's are still in the tree line? In the spring I should take a ride and see if I can find the farm and if Steve lives in the town.
It was an adventure, one only a young man would attempt.

Cool story, and one I can identify with.

Google Earth for a follow up? Maybe too forested.

It appears that there is a folded piece of paper stuck behind the 'Vettes door handle. I bet it says: "If you ever want to sell this call me at..." That happened frequently when I daily drove Porsche 356s in Monterey during Car Week. I replied to a few people, every single one was blowing smoke.

I'd love this Corvette. Its a '63 IIRC, knock off wheels, side pipes. Drum brakes? :puke1

Finned Caddies. A guy I know has a battered '64 Convertible and used to drive a '48 sedan. I was a road rep at the time and as a joke began taking film photos for him of any car fitting the profile. It got out of hand with lots of photos eventually. Found one junkyard north of Charlotte with lots of old iron and there had to have been three dozen '40s-'60s Cads in all kinds of shape. Lots of fins. He finally put an album together and took it to an owners' get-together. Ron said one guy from Garner NC was thumbing through the album and said, "That's my car!" and I remember stopping to take that pic.

Thanks for the idea. I looked at Google Earth and was unable to find the location. 45 year old memory and I am sure that the small family farm has been gobbled up into a mega farm.

Oh well-- worth a shot I guess. When I was looking for an Alaskan camper, I'd check out known prospects to see if one might turn up. Never did find anything identifiable, but then GE's resolution at the level required to identify a camper isn't that great.
