Coming soon to the DSMRA ride calendar:

    9/10 Nov 2019
Weekend ADV ride with an overnight at Merimbula. Some tracks will be G2, and if everyone is up for it, a short section of downhill G3, but bypassable. Suited to bigger bikes, but only with competent riders. Minimum fuel range required is 280 kms ex Queanbeyan, with the ride actually starting at Hoskingtown @ 08:00. Riders need to be fully self sufficient, with the necessary bits and bobs to repair a flat etc. Arrange your own accommodation, Ride leader Steve will be staying at the Town Centre Motor Inn Sat night. Capacity 12 riders.

If not currently a member, you can sign on as a temporary member for free to participate.

I suspect the medical profession will have me incapacitated for all of Nov/Dec, but if they run late I could do this.

I’m on a 17 Africa Twin which is proving to be too good
I haven’t had it long but I’m very comfortable with what it can manage
    Should’ve got one years ago

They, at least in 1000CC form, weren't available years ago FWIW.

I had a short run on a DCT version not long back, in the US as it happens, and, ignoring the DCT, it felt quite similar to my S10 which surprised me a bit. Not really sure what I was expecting.

In the meantime, the Merimbula ride is now listed on the DSMRA website so you can now all join in.

Yeah I guess 2016 is hardly years ago and they were in short supply for 8 months.

I keep wondering how you could loft the front wheel without the clutch but those with the DCT aren’t complaining too loudly.

I’m not sure what to compare mine to but S10 doesn’t spring to mind. Knowing how you ride too makes me consider the S10 very differently to what I’d thought it might feel like on a hard trail

I suspect that on a more technical ride than that I did the AT would come to the fore over my S10. It does surprise how capable it is, but never lets you forget its heavy, especially down hill.

I had the suspension upgraded and that made it something else again, but when I first rode one it reminded me of a big XR and felt very much lighter than the spec sheet suggested.
I find it well suited to technical terrain now, and not worrying about getting it scratched makes for a very fun bike without all the sensible decision making associated with big ADV bikes.

If you can keep the momentum well on and not come to a standstill while on a difficult hill its hard to knock off course when crashing a straight line, and gets there with surprising little fuss.
Big logs are the main hurdle so far.

I honestly haven't been as excited about a dirt bike since getting my XR400 suspension done back in 99 by Teknik.

That’s pretty much how it makes you want to ride. Even when it’s impossible give it a crack

City gone bad, did you track your ride? Wouldn't mind the file if so.

And I thought tomorrow was Wednesday. What a surprise, closer to a ride on Saturday than I thought.
Can't wait to go buy the few replacement bolts that got the idea of an adventure on their own. And maybe some new Loctite too.

Post on the local FB site (Canberra Adventure Bike Riders) might be of interest to those who are into Big Bike Enduro …

Thanks I just sent him a message through the missus FB.
I'll be in Tallaganda making noise tomorrow, then going to Bega to pick up a VFR800 from a very nice guy, when the tow ball gets back from the coast.

This should satisfy the road urge and stop me looking at a second set of wheels for the AT.
I picked it up on Sunday morning.

Had a wonderful play on the Megamoto with a VFR800 from Omeo to the Blue Duck.

Next weekend I'll be doing the road again on the GSPD. Accommodation's booked for the Saturday night with plenty of extra bunks.

    Tempted, Adam?

P.S. That looked like your AT in Calwell at lunchtime.
