Almost without fail, any and every thread posted by Baldy was greeted with the refrain of "it's your sandbox, we just play in it!", which always struck me as odd.

IME, a sandbox without people playing in it is just a box of sand...and probably some cat crap.

A couple of days ago I got a Cycle Gear ad on the e-mail account linked to my ADV account. Why do I get the sense that wasn't coincidental?

I think the Tacomaworld.com forum does it well. No pop ups or obtrusive ads, but there are amazon and other retailer links at the bottom of each page.

It seems to me the new subscription blackmail rate to remove annoying ads coincides with the new magazine-style homepage. This revenue more than likely will pay the salary of the hack journalists posting content there.

After reading an article on the new homepage that was an egregious plagiarized cut-n-paste from a competing website, and then having my comment pointing out this fact deleted, I re-directed my bookmark to open back to the Forum page.

The real journalists here are the Forum Inmates and the Proprietors need to re-recognize that fact as they must have done when they created it, and reward us Contributors with ad-free content.

    Truth.

The new home page content people are (for the most part) trying hard, but they're not journalists. They'd probably admit to that. But yah, the new home page is nothing more than glorified forum topics disguised as articles in a shiny wrapper.

If our email addresses have been sold out.... :fall

Hmmm, our data alone should already make enough money to remove need for ads. Current situation does not add upp for me.

My Smugmug account is up for renewal next week. Thanks to the advertising on this forum I just closed my smugmug account. All the photos in my ride report have already disappeared.

I also joined Smugmug a decade ago as a way of supporting Advrider. You can switch to a basic account for $48 a year.

I also have a longstanding flickr account and am not going to pay for both. Several weeks ago I posted on the smugmug feature request page that they create a way to transfer photos between the two services. It's been "awaiting moderator approval" ever since.
