Since I knew it would come up, I sat down last night and put together this video about my now completed relationship with Jet-Hot Coatings. I don't expect to hear from them again, nor do they really owe me any more support. All I wanted was black exhaust headers and I'm just over it now. I was never mean to them or disrespectful but eventually they just started ignoring me so I feel like we're both just going to cut our losses and that's that:

Send Jet Hot your one-piece OEM pipes, maybe...MAYBE...they can figure how to do THAT properly, accepting that they would inevitably coat the inside again. Go ahead, I dare you!

Btw, paying good money and expecting good work and being politely insistent when it hasn't been provided, does NOT make you anti-capitalist / anti-American, an unreasonable disgruntled customer nor an asshole... much less a "socialist pig" or whatever the fuck you meant by that (said by you in your overview video above). If being a red-blooded 'Murican means being unduly happy about being shafted...count me and anyone else with a lick of intelligence, way out!

To the contrary, "taking one for the team" and/or right up your unlubed, over-sprayed, ummm...exhaust pipe...then keeping a smile on your face just because it is an American company and you want to be a good little patriot who must place the interests of the nation above your own...is actually and instead the proper mindset required for that old-school, hardline communism to which you may have been trying to refer, young comrade:zilla!

You have it all twisted around...proper capitalism demands that good businesses and good products flourish while shit work whithers. It's much like evolution...and when you reward and laud incompetence and failure (as our society has been increasingly doing for decades now), you actually WEAKEN the nation by keeping around things that ought perish by the natural order.

Now this may be extreme and too harsh an indictment for the future of Jet Hot -- which I do understand CAN do some excellent work in other contexts -- but perhaps, at the least, they need to know and make their customers more aware of their apparent limitations...and/or just up their game significantly and use more common sense when slathering up expensive, tightly fitted parts sent to them.

Anyway, that's 0 for 2.5 on the scoreboard (the .5 added as a half-attempt attributed to Jet Hot's redo).

What a fucking ball smash, sorry bro'...time to permanently give up blacking out your bikes bits and baubles, imo anyway! :(

Hey Dack, I've been trying to find time to reply but it's actually been a pretty busy weekend. I'm sorry for not replying!

The one thing I find myself doing more since I partially live online is letting what people may say dictate the narrative. You see a lot of people doing this who are 'internet famous' not that I fall into that category but if you put out a video of your dog playing in the snow, you mention 1. it's not that cold outside 2. he was only out for 2 minutes 3. i bundled him up as soon we he was done playing. This is because you're anticipating public reaction to focus on how shitty you are as a dog owner versus people just freaking enjoying a video of a dog playing in the snow. I'm sure you've all seen it in comments fields. So while I personally align really well with you in that companies need to be on their game and they're not given a free pass just for being american, I anticipated that this video would be seen as anti-American especially when Jet-Hot's core customers are probably 4x4 bros who already hate me because I drive german cars / bikes and here I am shitting on an all-American company.

That's really what dictated the whole thing and it really is necessary to say except for when I get these comments calling me a communist in the next 12 months then I'll be glad that I spoke to their assumptions that I'm in fact not a communist.

Back to the incident as a whole, You an see in the video I sent to them and I'm happy to post email dialogue as well, I always give companies the benefit of it was their one below average worker who screwed up and if they can just make it right, no hard feelings. A lot of consumers come out swinging and I still feel like the issue could have been with Akrapovic I'll never know because I never tested the exhaust before Jet-Hot coated it.

based on everything else you've said and our other interactions, we have very similar ideals. I support small companies, doing quality work and providing a service but just because there are 4 employees and not 4,000 doesn't mean you have a free pass to be shitty. I'm also incredibly loyal and I almost always buy 'the best' meaning when a lot of people told me Jet-Hot is the place to go, I thought okay let me pay them almost $500 to coat my pipes and they'll be trouble free for life as per the warranty. My goal with these kind of rants isn't to be vindictive or drill them into the ground or cause financial loss for them but it needs to caution people that there is a possibility they will suffer the same issues with jet-Hot and maybe Jet-Hot will learn from their mistakes.

If you watched the last 3 minutes, I get the set back from jet-Hot a 2nd time and they'e coated it in and out again where I can't get the pieces together without sanding. I shouldn't have to spend an hour to fix something after a professional company works with it.

Funny how that works. I just figure anytime I put out something on the internet, there’s going to be at least one jerk store who uses a moment in time to define who they think I am.

Although hindsight is 20/20 and, while it would not be practical, had you known how this would turn out, you could have preassembled the headers short of getting the springs on and have them do the entire assembly as a whole... Yes, shipping would be a bear...

Not to defend Jet-Hot, but my experience with them dates back to '08 and '10, with OE style headers for previous GSAs I had, and sterling silver coated headers were delivered top notch, without any issues what-so-ever... Things may have changed for worse since at J-H and that's a shame as they were more thorough back then and coating cost quite a bit less too...

PS. I offered to you my Ti headers I had for sale earlier this year at beyond reasonable price and you passed - they're long gone to happy new owner in NC so I can't offer any "help" other than moral support... :lol3

I hear you man...a whole extra level of YouTube caution you've been negatively conditioned into incorporating in your public presentations.

You were far more patient and courteous than I ever would have been, I can confirm that for certain!

Yeah but at the time, I had perfectly good headers that were supposed to work. I'm not against changing the headers at some point, I just don't care as much as I did. "black all the things" is coming at a huge personal expense as year over year I've had black pipes totally shaft me.

In my eyes, the sign of a good company is one that takes constructive criticism and all feedback then uses it positively .. a mistake is a mistake but the same mistake twice means either incompetence or ignorance.
It really doesn't matter if Hot Rod were a US company or not .. for all we know they could be owned by Vladimir Putin .. but at the day the customer is keeping the gates to the factory open.
We seemed to get pushed around from pillar to post, ignored and taken for granted by the large conglomerates (AT&T .. Direct TV .. Even BMW to a certain extent etc etc) so a little service from the smaller companies means a lot to the average consumer.
It is nice to be heard but it seems Hot Rod were not listening :)

Jet Hot and other companies like them - including powder coating, will do a quick and mostly good mask job, they will not mask everything perfectly and they are not familiar with the thousands of different products they touch. So... all things considered I think they did a great job (round 2) trying to make this work for you. But the reality is they are using low cost workers who are just trying to knock the shit out and not get yelled at by their boss. I have never once received a product back from powder coating or ceramic/jethot coated that doesn't require me to do some work. From what I see with this go round you just need to address the inner diameters, grind em a bit to help the slip fit, then use a high temp silicone and I'm sure you will have a no leak fit.

My aftermarket y pipe leaks if I don't use silicone. Another reality point, aftermarket is not for everyone and will rarely have the same OEM fit. OEM requires a part to fit with zero fiddling and futzing. Aftermarket has nowhere near that pressure and the variability is the trade off. OEM reams you for a replacement header, it should be cheaper in reality, but it's probably 2-3x original cost, but that is mostly because they are storing them in warehouses 'just in case'.

Sorry this experience sucked, sorry I didn't say something to you sooner about the matte finishes... but imo it's a HUGE waste of money regardless. Stainless (or chromed) ugly head pipes don't do even the least to detract from the performance. IMO BMW owners are the biggest suckers in an aftermarket performance market. The dollar per hp return is fucking absurd. Harley dudes get a huge hp/$ return because the factory ships a product that makes 50% of the power in EPA trim vs Jap/BMW etc bikes shipped with 95% of max hp. It's astounding really.
