A Wednesday Ride with the TW Guys
Riding some local trails with my local TW riding crew.
Nice video Admiral. Great riding area.
I shall never complain where I'm able to live and ride...except for the snow during winter. The snow does allow me to catch up on maintenance though so if I have to find a positive that would be it. That and making videos of me sliding down the driveway with my grandson.
Whoops Rocks and Roots Trail 695
More Summertime fun on Blue Bunny
Holy She Tolhly! Good ride thanks for sharing. What mountain are you climbing there? dd
My plan was to take it easy on some ATV and double track trails. I couldn't resist but was prepared to turn around if the going got not going for my skill level. This isn't even my "trail" TW, which is Scoob (trail gearing). Street oriented gear on this TW did ok though.
I'm not sure of an exact mountain name as it doesn't list one on the trail I was riding. In general, the trail is north of Idaho City to the west of Bear Run trail (north to south from Idaho City to Pilot Peak (old lookout) near Lager Beer Gulch/Eldorado Gulch area.
Great Stuff.. Looks like fun!
If it ain't too hard it's fun. I like the easy trails. This was fun.
I did test my "nerve" riding solo on some sidehill exposed singletrack later in the year. You know, just to keep the heart rate up!
Black Friday Barn Find
If you can’t be good, be lucky so they say. Saw this for-sale and thought it might make a good parts bike. Missing seat and side covers but otherwise complete. A bit weathered but only 2,645 miles. In the next few days, I’ll check to see if I can get it running. If yes maybe the parts bike will become a small wintertime restoration project...when I’m not napping .
...a day later
Proof of concept. Fires up and I'll pursue restoration. Won't run= parts bike. Well...
Turns out I have plastic side covers from the stash which will work.
This TW came without keys. Problem #1, gas cap. Found the solution which won't wreck anything. Worked like a charm. Note: This was so easy I don't know why they even bother with a locking gas cap on TW's or similar. I'll remove the lock tumblers to make it a non-locking useable gas cap.
The gas tank will need to be cleaned but not horrible horrible
Problem #2. Ignition. Clean and see if I can use 2005 ignition parts with a key to make it work.
When they say barn find I found some of the barn in the key ignition switch. Not sure if this is gonna work. Nasty dirty!
What I was had to do was use the original 95 switch-plate with the electrical lead, clean it up and transplant it into the 2005 switch. I had to do this because the 95 has a different electrical system than the 2005 and the ignition lead has a slightly different connector and wiring.
Worked. Lights and starter all work. Borrowed battery and gas tank from Blue Bunny for the proof of concept testing.
Looks like a go. I'm sure the carb needs cleaning but looks like I'll pursue the restoration.
Ahoy Skipper. That one looks like a side car tug eh. Leading link fork n all. Just in time for Winter.
It's a normal TW but I've often thought of having a small sidecar. Maybe I could revisit that idea.
Set up a sting operation to catch the countertop thief!
Entrapment! The pup needs a good lawyer!
Put a ski on the front! Idaho rig!
You mean like this? (Pic was blatantly stolen from one of @TheAdmiral's previous posts)
I tried! I've actually been thinking of ski outriggers or outrigger wheels similar to the "training wheels" for a PW50. That way I won't tip over...as easily!
I Took Squirrel the XT200 to the Woods
Singletrack time. Took Squirrel out on the trail for the first ride on the XT200 of the year. Poor suspension, underpowered, and tons of fun. Due to time constraints (I decided to ride at the last minute and left late) I could only do and out and back. My goal was to ride to the junction of Stratton Creek Trail, a trail I'd like to try someday. Well, I passed the junction (didn't see it). I turned around and searched for the trail according to the map. I gave up thinking the trail didn't exist anymore when a few hundred yards back I found it. The trail is even marked with a "trailblaze" which marks most hiking, equine, and motorized trails. So, one day I'll go back, and hopefully, it will be this year. So many places to ride, so little time! :)
Pilot Peak Bull Run w/Mrs. Admiral
While camping we take a ride up to the old Pilot Peak Lookout north of Idaho City, ID. We dive into Idaho City for a short sightseeing tour and then head back to camp. We were a little surprised to still see snow on the Bull Run trail. Good day to ride it was.
EEYORE the XT350 in the 100 Acre Woods
Riding eeyore my XT350 on some trails.
Hey Admiral; thought you might accept the invite and ride straight up the ladders to the "poop" deck...
