How to determine the sizing of the Trail Waterproof Shell? Should I order the same size as my ADV Spec Mongolian Jacket?

Just received an Atacama race jacket I ordered from Mx1west on Saturday. My rear pocket has the divider in place. Did I receive “old stock” with the divider and narrower forearms?

    Thanks,

    Chad

First off I think I received old stock as mine has a divider down the back pocket, and the forearms seem rather snug. That being said nether of those items is a deal breaker at this point. I’m waiting to hear back from Adventure Spec and will hopefully speak with MX1WEST tomorrow to get the lowdown.

My first thought when I picked up the package was, “Man this thing is light for a jacket!” After I opened it I thought, “This thing is somewhere between a jersey and a jacket.” It is definitely way more robust than my Mojave Pro Jersey, but way lighter than say my old BMW Rallye 2 Pro. That is what I was hoping it would be so mission accomplished!

When I put the jacket on I was a little disappointed in the rough feel of the mesh and can feel the roughness of the stitching through the forearm area. I put on a long sleeve under armor type top and roughness largely went away. I will be wearing a Leatt 3df air fit lite underneath so the roughness won’t be a factor. If you were planning to wear a T-shirt an put some D30 armor in there I think you might find it to be a little uncomfortable with the roughness and close to the skin fit. Certainly doesn’t feel as smooth as my old Revit Tornado which felt fine over a t-shirt.

To give an idea of sizing I ordered a large and really like the fit. The arms are a little long, but don’t seem like they will bother me. I am 5’8”/200 pounds. I wear a 34” waist in pants and have a 44-45” chest. I have a long torso/short legs and have average length arms. In the photo I am wearing a Forcefield vest with back and chest protectors, but no shoulder or elbow protectors, a Leatt GPX 5.5, and a Klim F4. The thought was to order the jacket and if I liked it, order the Leatt 3df to wear under it.

Aside from having an expectation that I would have roomier sleeves and an undivided rear pocket that I could stuff a rain shell into I am happy. I am not sure if the single pocket bigger/sleeves thing ever went into production so maybe somebody else might be able to answer that one.

As for a rain shell? I discovered that my 20 year old REI bicycling rain jacket fits perfectly over the top. It even seals up nicely over the Leatt neck brace. Who knew?

    Thanks!

MX1 has previously said they were still selling the pre-updates jacket.

Thanks for the heads up. Might have to return and order through Adv Spec I guess?

If you feel the forarms are tight, you will have real trouble once you put a Leatt 3df under IMHO.
BTW that exactly my set up and love the set up for warmer days. The new roomier version, however is a better fit for me in the forarms.

I looks like a nice shall jacket for sure, but I agree it's simply to experience especially seeing it's without Gore-Tex and/or similar.

I don't have giant forearms, but I will take all the room I can get! I received an email from Adventure Spec this morning that said that the new models still have the same rear pocket with the divider (that it was never changed to a single, large pocket), and suggested that I have the newer version from MX1West. Does your jacket have a divided rear pocket, or a single large one without the the divider?

    Thanks!

I promise this is my last post stinking up this thread! The guys I mention below were all super helpful in helping me get this figured out.

After speaking with Chris at Adventure Spec, Patrick (I hope I have that correct) at Adventure Spec USA, and Jason at Mx1West, I finally have my sh#t figured out!

As told by Chris at Adventure Spec: “The single rear pocket (no divider) never went into production on the Atacama Race jacket. The new ones have the divider and it sounds like an easy fix to remove the stitching to make it a big single pocket. The jackets being sold now have the larger arms.

From my conversation with Adventure Spec USA in Colorado: He gets his stock from Adventure Spec in England, and distributes in the US. My jacket came from the shipment he sent to Mx1West last week.

From Jason at Mx1West: The Atacama race jacket I ordered is the latest and greatest available from Adventure Spec. He is selling new stock and representing the brand well. Jason was especially helpful and I look forward to doing more business with Mx1West! Jason even called me back and had a lengthy chat with me about the development of the gear etc... Adventure Spec definitely picked the right dealer to sell their gear.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the jacket I received I just wanted to make sure I had the largest arm width available. I put my D30 armor from my other jacket in the shoulders and elbows and put on my Forcefield vest with chest and back protector along with my Mammut jacket (very similar to the Baltic hybrid) and didn’t feel like the arms were overly tight. So there you go....

Now.... if I could just learn to ride like Lyndon Poskitt...

    Okay guys...

It's been a while. I was making too many promises that we were ultimately unable to keep (it's been a long journey...) So I eventually decided to say nothing until we actually had stock available.

I am delighted to say that we now have a stock of Mongolia OTB Pants in short, regular and tall legs, Waterproof Trail Jackets and as of last week neck brace compatible Atacama Waterproof Shells (Lyndons Dakar Shell) available for sale from the UK and the US warehouses (and a few specialist US dealers).

Our US website and warehouse we slow to start, but we are now moving up to full working speed alongside our usual UK operations. Again, it's been a long and complex road.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Any questions...fire them over.

That's great news! Thanks for your hard work on your end, Dave :thumb

Is the Adventure Spec USA distribution different from MX1 West? Or is it all coming from the same warehouse over here, no matter which we order from? Cheers, man!

A sizing question.......just to be sure......
I wear Levi's 501 jeans 32-34 ( my actual linear measurements are 35.5"-33"). From viewing Dave and Greg's video on sizing, their charts are 'our' measured size body dimensions. Yes?
If yes then my ordered pant size would be more like their 36 regular or the 36 tall? Am I understanding this right?

    Thanks everyone... :clap:clap

So what would be the rain pants over the Atacama race pants (if I would buy the Trail waterproof shell over the Mongolia trail jacket)?

For those of you with the Mogolia pants, how are they in very hot temps? THey don’t use the same mesh as the Atacama jacket, right?

    We ha
AS have a US warehouse in Colorado Springs where we keep a central stock of all of our clothes and AS hard parts. If you order from the us.adventure-spec.com website your clothing will come from Patrick in Colorado Springs.

If you order from MX1 West either by phone or Internet then Jason will ship your stock from his shop in California. At this time Jason is the only stocking dealer we have accepted in the USA (he has all models and sizes in stock).

Hope that clears up the US stock situation!

The New Atacama Shell is now available and is an exact copy of Lyndons Dakar rally shell i.e. works with neck braces. It's also considerably cheaper than the Trail Shell as it doesn't have any Kevlar materials, venting zips or a hood.

    Hope that helps.
