Dirty Himalayans & A Loo with a View

The snow on the backroads of the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia is melting and the slippery mud is here. Which is all good by me and my Himalayan, Bagheera, as we enjoy getting dirty. We set out for a ride through the rainy forest, filled with mist and soon the roads took us to a small lake amongst the trees.

The lake did not disappoint and it was a great spot to stop for a break.

There were five swans swimming at the one end.

The camera I had didn't pick them up very well, but you can kind of see them. It's the first time I have seen so many together in this area. Really cool.

The area was all set up for camping, a fire pit, some empties to return for more beverages and even a loo with a view.

I was very happy (from the ride, not the amenities, I squat, like a real woman...lol) and so were the Himalayans, but they were soooo dirty when we got home.

All part of the fun! Great ride.

Great stuff, and what a great location. Dig the video too; snow, ice, mud and a giant bug on the dashboard. :lol3

Hoping you’ll post some more reports.

I saw the photo of that pier and thought, "Are they going to ride that out onto the lake too? Yow!"

Great ride report and great video!

Thanks! :wave I did try to walk on the pier, but didn't get far. Might be fun in the summer as it wouldn't be so bad falling in. :-)

When Your Tires Say "Go Home Silly Human"

Mount Elphinstone Provincial Park is located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada. There are a few gravel roads that travel through the park and offer the locals a great place to adventure into the backcountry and play the day away.

We ride there a lot during the summer and fall, but thought we would ride up there this Spring and see where the snow line was at. The tires on our bikes are not meant for snow in any way, so we go as far as we can. After some slip sliding around, we decided to turn around at 666 meters (more like our tires said, GO HOME SILLY) . We will try again soon, as it is one of our favourite roads!

Fun ride and great experience, I even managed to keep the rubber side down.

    The Dust is Back!

One week we are riding in the snow and the next we are travelling down dry dusty roads. :clap

With a dry April on the Sunshine Coast it is no wonder. We also saw a lot of the roads had been topped with fresh gravel and graded. Around here that usually means the logging trucks will be coming through, so best be aware of where you are riding, as I have learned, meeting a logging truck in the wrong spot can be a bit scary.

A friendly wave is always a good idea when you are sharing the roads! :wave

I was cleaning the light dust off everything for hours when I got home, but that is all part of the fun.

Nice to see you have combined everything into 1 thread. Love the videos. I will be following your rides. Where on the Sunshine Coast are you based? I rode out there to Gibson's in 1989 and was also there in 2018 when I came to North Van for my son's wedding.

    Thanks! :-)
I'm in Halfmoon Bay, which is a nice halfway spot on the Coast and I have gravel road access about 2 mins from home, so I like it.
