Met him a couple of weeks ago in Glasgow, thoroughly decent bloke and a great speaker. Can't wait for this to happen in January.

The only bigger fan of Lyndon in our household is...my wife :patch. Good thing we're a continent or two away or I'd be left behind in a cloud of dust!

    Have a brilliant race!

I generally dislike mixing fun and "politics" but I am bothered by the murder of Jamal Khashoggi and I am thinking of "changing channels" from Dakar (so-called) to Africa Eco this year. (I know, I know, all countries do bad stuff...)

Politics aside, I think the racing in the Africa Eco will be better than Dakar this year. More countries involved, more varied terrain, the nostalgia of finishing the race in Dakar. It might not have the money and fanfare of the actual Dakar, but I'm here for the racing!

And, of course, to support #100. :ricky

I don't think you're alone in that. Some of my professional work is with human rights organizations, and aside from what happened to Khashoggi, there is just a lot there that has certainly tempered my usual enthusiasm for the Dakar. Yes, all countries do bad stuff, but "sports washing" is a thing, and not every country is the same in terms of doing bad things... Ugh.

You're only worried about Jamal? What about the 10's of other who are beheaded for next to nothing from our 1st world entitled perspective?

Yeah, the sports washing is not a nice view of our current world and as a privileged white male in the 1st world I have no leg to stand on for any comment.
