So in an effort to be able to find info latter, lets see your choices on crash protection.
Good thread. I am on the lookout for options myself. I would suggest including prices.
Prices, Vendors, Diameter and other specs, reviews, opinions ...
Here is a Holan I really like the shape and everything.
Right now it seems the only readily available solutions to order in the USA are the SW-Motech ones.
Jason from ADVMotorrad is working on finding out more info for me on the other options. Apparently the Holan's are still a ways out from being in stock here in the states. He's also checking on the Hepco and Givi solutions as well to see when they'll be available to order or if they maybe already are here in the USA?
It looks like Touratech's are out of stock as well for now. Also Outback Motortek is slated to be ready in June some time and they make decent stuff.
Out of all of them I think only the Hepco's have for sure survived a real crash test on pavement that I know of and seemed to do their job well. Just scratched up really, still usable.

Do you have to take off the exhaust to install?
Someone else's bike. How do you like them? Do they seem strong? Holan is at the very top of my list, I was waiting as my bike is still on order. I like the custom that Emik posted too.
We're a USA small business currently designing crash bars and other enhancements for the Africa Twin.
Wouldn't it be easier to keep the bike upright without the weight of a jungle gym dragging the thing down?
Sure, in a perfect world. But shit happens whether it be on my 225 lb. Grom or 500 lb. AT.
That's why I carry JB_Weld and bailing wire.
Crash bars like that are superfluous.

also I disagree with both posters above that they are useless. I'd rather protect a $700 fairing from multiple drops with ~$400 in crash bars than replace it possibly often
My experience when bike falls it hits the ground down around the engine cases and at handlebars. IMO those bars are overextended and will bend into the bike in a hard fall that impacts the upper fairing. Plus, IMO only they look cheesy. Back to regular programming...
I've got the SW motec ones and I have crash tested them, they work very well. I also have bark buster, you don't need the lower engine bars if you fit a decent sump guard. Mine gets ridden hard off road and so far other than the crash bars it doesn't have scratch on it
Nope. Just loose exhaust and collectors.
