What were the problems with the rear rack and tank?
I knew of the spokes and fork internal issues but was unaware of the rack and tank.

Yeah, I've never heard of tank issues.

And, some people had their rear racks crack/break.

Also never heard of tank issues and very little re rack....

My forks are still going great even with wear marks inside.

To answer LDC's querie, not sure when they changed the coating, but if it is darker than the previous models, it is a better coating no question.

It is an awesome all round bike and I wouldn't want something heavier

The ATAS has some tank issues, not the standard AT.

Yep I did some internet digging and found that some ATAS were affected by tank over-spray clogging fuel pumps.
I found the only other common issues were rusting spokes, the internal coating of the forks, dash hard to see sometimes, bar above the dash breaking welds with GPS attached, slight fueling issues with the early models causing snatchy throttle at low speeds and some guys in the States were experiencing some cold start or idle issues. That and the complaints about how much body work needs to come off for simple maintenance.
Other than that most owners seem pretty bloody happy with the ride and that sounds promising to me.

    Thanks guys.

My AT may be an exception to the rule here (but I doubt it) , but outside of a leaking fork seal , I have had zero issues with mine , 2016 model . Some of you guys will have seen the videos.... if any AT should have given dramas it should be mine after the riding / falls etc it has been through . Ye there was some wear evident when I did the fork seal which was possibly more obvious due to the gold coloring in the oil but it was no more evident than the wear and silver frost in the oil when I did the fork seals on the 950 ADV...
Like Big W , I'm not about to replace mine :)

If your going to be riding more off road and your not the best with a big bike the 790R is the way to go.

agree 100% when you are looking at the big bikes you do have to be honest with yourself , and really for me its more off road than on road

out of all the new bikes i think and hope this does what i want it to,bush, beach, fire trails, and not too much road

    I'm sure it will.

Pretty sure it will be a weapon on the road as well.

I bought the AT to do only dirt over the KTM 1090 and 790, glad I did too.
    Neither bikes are without complaints.

Anyone changed out the ATAS screen for something shorter? Know of where I can get an aftermarket one before next weekends GP trip?

I'm loathe to cut the stocker down as it's $470 to replace it. I have ordered a Puig from a Melbourne importer but it's still on a slow boat from Spain.. :(

    Cheers John

Thanks yes Eagle Screens was my first call, (used them prior for a 950 screen) before I ordered the Puig but he doesn't have a mold for ATAS as yet. Needs an inmate with ATAS in Perth to drop by for a measure up.

    Will call Melbourne.

    Cheers John

Western M/C in Penrith is able to get me a shorter Givi screen inside a week, so ordered that. Only possible snafu is Givi website in Italy shows all the screens under ATAS page but mounted on regular AT, hope it comes with the 6 mounting holes not 4 as shown.
    :hmmmmm

cut it. if you're not happy with it, its not like you'll be ordering another oem one. so the $470 is irrelevant, no?
