Just stumbled across this bike. Coming to Oz in 2015. http://www.ajpaustralia.com.au/ An old Spanish make? They have a range of enduro styles bikes, seem to be priced much less than the KTM, perhaps a type of bike in between the DRZ400 and the KTM EXC range. Possibly more like what most of us really need (not want?) This bike has the Minarelli 660cc engine that has been in Raptors and the mighty XTZ, XTR and XTX660 s and is pretty well indestructible (albeit needing some minor mods to overcome that asphyxiating Euro emissions standard), but can also be souped right up quite well (Google: Kev's Mods) This thing...never mind, I'll copy and past the info about 300mm Ohlins travel, 17 litres fuel etc etc.... And more from a press release: Some of which wouldn't copy, so original is here: http://dfsm9194vna0o.cloudfront.net/454075-0-PRAJPPR7PROTOTYPEpressrelease.pdf
Looks good, fuel tank under seat with throw-over panniers? Have to unload, just to fill it up? Need another 10 litres of fuel somewhere.
Got me from Perth to Melb in 3 days in the 186kg dry XTZ Tenere guise. As long as it's road reg and has a subframe to hold panniers, looks very good.
Hmmm this looks promising. I agree there are some shortcomings as mentioned, but fixable with a little creativity. Wonder how much $$
Portugese Thread over in Thumpers about it: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1013515 I'm really looking forward to checking it out when it arrives. If it delivers I think i'll take a chance and buy one.
I disagree, what is an adventure bike? At 350km per tank it's better than my 990 & Tiger & when I last looked they were considered adventure bikes. Put on a Rotopax or a bladder as most of us do & your laughin'.
What are you comparing it to? I think that's pretty good, provided it's at the rear wheel. The 690 enduro R is 66 at the crank so probably not much more than this.
I saw their web site a while ago that had the US dollars for the bike, it was surprising well priced. I'm sure it will be a it more by the time it gets to Aus but I was surprised how cheap it was. I can't find the page or exactly remember but priced well below a 690
Gday Pete, I missed the 350 km's range bit. Good point, that's good range, at least for a start. Before I got too carried away about HP numbers I'd like to see the torque figures, how many NM are these puppies putting out, that will tell you how much grunt its got IMHO.
58 pushing maybe 30 kilos less than a xt660r and even more versus the xtz from the same motor?. wont be startling performance but frugal and reliable. quicker than a dr or klr youd expect be great to have another choice
58nm is a pretty impressive torque figure from a single. Normal loss from engine to wheel is somewhere around 10-12% with the Hp.
I think Richo wants us to know he has a big cock. ************** You can relatively easily and with some $$ modify the XT660 engine to get 59 HP at the rear wheel (on a dyno), if you have size issues. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=3215
Simply by not having the oversize muffler like the XT660z does would be a bennefit straight of the bat. With far less weight and superior suspension this is a very promissing bike. Remember Brocky's Bathurst winning 6 cyl XU-1 had way less ponnies and was far slower than the Falcons. Can't believe how many new ADV models we are seeing, I'm excited!
Damn, did those pics make it to the internet? Like a lot of small manufacturers/low volume bike retailers, Id tend to shun it on the basis of 'here today gone tomorrow'. Hey, maybe in five to ten years you may still be able to buy spare parts off the internet. Maybe not.... Removing the seat to fill it with fuel? Yes, I picked holes in it again. Sorry. I'm fussy like that.
