Reporting in from Hungary, in a few weeks hopefully I will get my license for my 2021 AJP PR7. (Bought mid July)
Thanks for sharing! I for one am looking forward to following her trip on such an interesting machine.
My group of ADVrs is supposed to meet up for dinner with her Tuesday night in Tulsa.
Did you ever get it straightened out?
I can't get ahold of him either.
My buddy in Oregon is selling his PR7. Raced it at the Baja Rally in 2019
Yes. I had the pleasure of riding with Heather for a day on part of the MABDR near my home. She is a pretty bad-ass rider! She is American but lives in London. She already did Asia to London on a DRZ400, solo, and was stuck in Morocco for 5 months with her DRZ when borders were closed for COVID. Now she is doing the TAT solo on her PR7. I’m pretty sure that she and I riding together was one of the only times 2 PR7s were together in the wild in the US.
It was fortuitous that she was with another PR7 rider that day. While we were riding the bolt on her bash plate vibrated out and her plate fell off and she ran it over, bending it. We couldn’t fix on the road, and I didn’t want her to have to take a day trying to find someone to fix it, so I exchanged bash plates with her and took her bent one home with me to fix in my garage. So my bash plate gets to go around the world in her bike now. Hopefully it will send me postcards. I don’t think she is on ADV.
What sprocket combo do you guys run? I finally got my bike out for about 40 miles of off road yesterday, including single track and steep mountain pass climbing. With the current setup, first gear idles at 7mph, which takes a lot to release the clutch on a rocky hill takeoff. My previous bike was an XR650 with 14/48, but I'm not sure how that would affect highway speed without doing the wr transmission mod.
I’ve been running stock since I bought mine in 3/20. I do enough higher speed stuff on the road that it’s not worth gearing down, so I just live with the difficulties of steep hill starts.
My previous bike was an R also, if it only had an estart, best bike ever made!
I recently just sold my XR650R and I could live without the button but not the close ratio gearbox, not making the bike flexible enough for my requirements. I've been crunching some numbers on different bikes and their transmission ratios as a determining factor in a bike that is capable of cruizing at 120km/h for long transport sections and still able to be ok at 1st gear technical terrain. Using my XR600R with the 5th gear mod from the NX650 as my yardstick being the closest ratio gearbox that I can accept for my intended purpose, I get these numbers.
First gear (31/13) 2.385 ÷ 5th gear (20/25) 0.8 = 2.981
For reference stock XR600R is (21/25) 0.84 5th gear giving 2.839
XR650R 1st (37/12) 3.083 ÷ 5th (29/26) 1.115 = 2.765
Without typing out all the following bikes individual ratios here is what I have come up with to my best knowledge..
AJP PR7 2.97 so just scrapes onto my acceptable list
DR 650 2.915
EXC 500 3.18
CRF 450L 2.97
CRF 450X 2.7
KTM 690 2.875
T 700 2.95
TE 610 3.4
Available rpm range play a part as well.
Amazing work! I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing that. I'd love to know more about the NX650 hack for the 600 - I've still got a project 600L sitting out back. Also, have you read about the WR transmission mod for the PR7? It takes the wide ratio 4,5,6 from the 610 - but requires a major engine tear-open to install. I'd love to see if there are available part numbers, so I don't have to hunt down a broken 610 just to rip the guts out of the transmission.
Being vertically challenged I am think about building a tubeless 19 / 17 wheel set. I was wondering if anybody knows what the front and rear hubs are that are on the PR 7. AJP being a small company I wouldn't think these are stand alone hubs but taken from an existing bike.
Its 5 and 6 gear, and the parts are from a Husky 630. Dont know if thats the same parts as 610. The kit can be ordered at italhusky.. Partnr: 8A0079684 clutch gasket from swm or ajp.. Since one of the parts is the output shaft you need to run Husky sprockets onwards since the number of splines in the shaft will change, as i recall..
I came across this vid a while back when looking into PR7 / SWM 650 gearbox ratios, and if there is parts interchangeability to the wide ratio Husky TE 630.
Hi @ all from Austria!
I saw you mentioned Heather from Instagram - well she is having some troubles with her ECU and is looking for someone that may have the TEXA tools to flash here Athena ECU. Anyone here that can help or knows anyone?
I met Heathet last year here in Europe and we have been chating for years, so don’t be astonished that this request comes from the other side of the pond!
please contact her via instagram
Any help greatly appreciated!
Woodys Wheel Works can easily build what you want. Your hubs will have to be modified slightly to accept the larger spokes. They’d have sealed Takasago Excel rims. Can’t get any stronger.
I don’t think thork is messing with the new ECU. I have the Delphi software and cable but will not help with new ecu. (And a V4 thork ecu sitting shelf)
I would be there is similar ECU reset that may help. Or cleaning that darn small injector filter
