Do I have had the AK550 for a couple of months now. I still love the scooter. It’s comfortable and has just enough wind protection. Not so much that I am isolated just enough to keep me warm on a cold day. The bike runs well.

I have done the first oil change. There are two oil screens and and oil filter. You have to pull the two lower painted panels under the floor boards to remove the plastic skid plate. It is say enough. Clean the two filter screens and replace replace oil filter and fill with oil. The owners manual give basic instructions on the job. There is also a free shop manual floating around the net.

Ride the bike or start it and warm it up at least once a week. A pig tail is easy to install for a trickle charger if desired. The battery is under the windscreen. I looped the pig tail out of one of the plastic holes for the windscreen mount. There are a lot of electrical dud ads and they will drain your battery over time.

The drive belt requires a sonic belt tension tool to adjust. I have measured the belt tension from new with a standard belt tension device. I have used a Harley method to obtain a measurement. I used a 10lbs tension toll I bought for my Harley. I took a measurement from the lower belt guard tab to where I placed the tension tool. I then measured tension and deflection on the kickstand and on the center stand. If anyone is interested I’ll post my findings.

So here begins the journey please feel free to ask questions or post findings. Tmax cult members please go bug the MP3 folks.

I saw one today at Seattle Cycle Center today. it must have been a pre order paid for. The shop does not tend to stock high priced scooters unless its taken.

There are several ads on cycletrader locally. I'm not sure if they actually have them in stock. FBC still has an ad up, as well as Del Amo motorsports in OC.

    HeyZeus, thanks for the information.

thank you for letting me know
i think most dealers got 1... i suppose it has limited appeal which means some may actually have one in stock
one interesting thing about the initial break-in
although there are "every 3,000 mile" suggested oil changes.... the FIRST one is due at 300 KM... that's right... 187.5 miles
so... you'd have to do that yourself if you wanted to ride it home from ANYWHERE
never heard ANYTHING like it before

The first oil change for my super 8 was around 200 miles as well.

    that is interesting
especially considering the Like was at 500 miles or so, i believe
i don't think it was the usual 1K/625 miles
    ............
and, the 550 motor is far more sophisticated
seems like an oddly small number of miles to check (even though many folks around here do just that anyway... with any/all bikes they get)

It seems that Kymco randomly changes the maintenance intervals of their scooters from year to year so I would take everything in the owners manuals with a grain of salt.

At least one item in the 2018 Like owners manual was flat out wrong and different from the service manual.

House of Kawasaki, the Kymco dealership here in Oklahoma City, has had an AK550 available for a few weeks; I saw it in person there.

TJ's Cycle in Austin had both colors unsold when I picked up my Like 150 a few weeks ago. No added destination or prep fees. Fantastic looking bike.

No added destination or prep fees -- really? Wow! Is that TJ's Cycle's general policy for all the bikes they sell, or just for the AK550 for some reason?

The AK550 at House of Kawasaki here in Oklahoma City is the "Space Grey" color. And yeah, it's a fantastic looking bike.

EDIT: Answered my own question; went to the TJ's website, and it says right at the top, "Never any freight or setup added onto price listed." That would almost make it worth going to Austin from Oklahoma City.

That is even more ridiculous than my new Ural where the first service is at 310 miles. The first service on my truck was 5k miles.

the AK 550 has scheduled service at 5,000 km intervals.... but, the first at 300 km....
i've NEVER heard that before even though many here drop their oil at 100 miles
    it is what it is
oh.... that new Ural is speaking to me
the 15 x limited edition Gear Up.... is so dang sexy (of course.... unobtainable and 24K+... ridiculous):

Kymco changes too much too often. One of the things that would discourage me from buying one of their higher dollar models is the fear that they would drop it or change it substantially and make parts hard to get at some point.
