To avoid the RV Mass Migration North to Alaska one must leave early. Arrived early June and not many Rv's or bugs yet. Different story on way back Mid-June. Both arrived in large numbers. DEET needed for bugs, patience needed for RV's, or just pass em quickly. Enjoy.

I have been to Alaska, though not on a motorcycle, that time of year and you should be prepared for cool, rainy and possible snow that time of year. The up side is NO bugs and most of the annual RV Migration is home. It is also the most beautiful time of year as the tundra goes ballastic in color. Go for it. You want aAdventure, right?

That was exactly my experience in '03. Went up late May -- cold mornings (I'm an inveterate early riser) but only one day of rain and few RVs. Got off-season rates at motels, too. Returning south in mid-June I passed the caravans on their way up, and was happy not to be traveling in their direction. Of course, I returned via the Cassiar so that may have accounted for the dearth of Winnabarges.

Anyone interested in Alaska weather - post over on the Alaska forum in Regionals - we've been (dis)cussing it quite a bit lately. :becca
