Like you, I am also planning a trip up north in the summer of '09, and I also have those damn time constraints of 2 weeks. I got permission from my SO (finally) to do the trip for my birthday. I was planning on seeing Alaska myself, but after calculating mileage, I'm sticking with northern Canada as my destination. I'm going to get more off-road experience this summer so that I can tackle the Dempster Highway. I plan on starting my trip with a picture in front of the Arctic Circle drive-in down the street from my house, culminating with a picture in front of the Arctic Circle sign in the YT. I know there will be a couple of long riding days to get everything in.

You guys should troll over in Great White North....the sage advice will always be....give yourself at least a month.....the weather is so dynamic...and, the destination is not disneyland.....doing a full throttle trip is really an insult to the experience.

IMHO what you see is older, retired guys sharing an awesome experience meeting the locals, and doing something other than the haul road for the trophy. The young guys want the trophy and probably realize afterwards the trophy is the quality of the journey, not the destination.

Alaska is not going anywhere.....get a few other longer trips under your belt and plan for it and do it right.
