Can you heat a can of baked beans or chili directly on one of these? Which would be better?
Yes, but cut the lid off first! Either one will work, but for that I might use a simmer. Also, pull the paper label off so it doesn't burn. On the first page of this thread you'll see a tin can sitting right on the stove.
Do you mean the tin coffee mug? I was looking for a can of Bush's or something. Doesn't matter either way, I am ordering a simmer stove for sure as soon as I get this paypal I am waiting on from someone.
Question.....kinda related, read a thread once upon a time bout a guy that traveled with a can of stew, olive oil and a frozen game hen. Ate the stew first night and fryed the thawed bird the next. Any ideas where I could find this thread?
I think the chili would be better!
Mine arrived today - they look marvellous! Thanks for excellent and speedy service, ShadyRascal!
Got mine in. Thanks for the fast shipment!!!!!!
Just tried mine with denatured alcohol (something called "red spirits" here - couldn't find Heet, and I don't know what the equivalent is). The flames were a little too high for my liking (the fuel nearly boiled and almost had me worried about my kitchen fan), and the pot got a little black around the edges.
But the stove worked like a charm! 1oz of fuel heated a 900g tin of lapskaus in no time, and still had several minutes left burning.
I will try to find a fuel that burns a little less violently, I think. I've heard that mixing ~10% of water with the denatured alcohol helps a bit with the soot (and possibly also with the flames?), so I'll try that next.
Thanks again, ShadyRascal!
I have tried several fuels, and the Heet was always the best as far as flame height and perfectly clean burn. But, sometimes you might not be able to find it and the key there is to look for actual Methyl Alcohol which is a little different than isopropyl or denatured alcohol.
Pretty slick dude. Too bad I went crazy at REI this weekend otherwise id snag it.
You owe it to yourself. Hell, it's only the cost of a decent margarita in your neck of the woods.
haha true although I do love my baked beans. I bought a camp mess kit today so I bought both stoves just now. Can't wait to use them
Sounds like Larryboy, check this RR or others in his sig
Xymotic, Not the one I was looking for.....but just burned 'bout an hour read'n his thread anyway Thanks dood.
That's funny cause I bought Heet at both stores and it's in the same place as their Gasline antifreeze, which also works in the 6 pack ( Black bottle with Blue/white label) and the 1st Aid instructions on the back says it contains Methyl Alcohol.
I tried the Chili and didn't take the paper/label off and it worked great. Boiled it in less then 4 minutes ( Exact time I don't remember), but it was less...
Love My stove....
Just got my Stove in the Mail, Fast shipping!
The Quality of this thing is amazing especially considering its price. I cant wait to give it a try.
Just placed an order for both stoves. I was going to make one myself, but the sunny weekend requires I ride and not work. Looking forward to using them down in Hells Canyon.
Planning on heading there myself soon.
Scout, can you pm me your mailing address, it didn't come through on the payment.
Will you send to Australia?
Second question dependent on the first
What fuels are people using over here?
Yes we are worldwide, baby. To Australia add $2 per stove for the added shipping costs. For fuel, just sniff around different auto parts places for anything that is Methyl Alcohol, that's what HEET is. Isopropyl and regular denatured will work, however will burn sooty. Methyl burns so clean you can never tell that your stove has been used.
