Time for another ride report to start! I fly in a couple of days Morocco bound. It been a little weird since coming back in October early as Julie's (AKA @Wild Ginger) father got sick and passed away. Sadly she won't join this trip wanting to spend a bit of time at home .... I did drag her out here last week though! We then had the shocking fires and now as I write this torrential rain and some flooding! In the words of the poem ... "We'll All Be Ruined Said Harrahan!" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Said_Hanrahan Smokey Sydney ... And signs of new life ... Im just back from a quick jaunt out to Broken Hill in somewhat brutal 43 degrees C (or 110F) temps so hoping for some cooler european weather and sensible temps in the high Atlas. Michael and Vicki came over from LA (we'd met a while ago at Dead Horse/Prudo Bay and stayed in touch and visited a couple of years ago! It was nice to get back on the bike and show them some country! They met a few road trains .... Stayed in some 5* Pubs! And saw the sights! Last years ride finished with the bike being parked in the UK, tucked up safe and sound in my mum's garage. Quite a lady at 94 and threatening to take the bike for a spin! This time the ride will take me down to the south coast, across to Le Harvre then blast thru France and into norther Spain then Portugal. I'll cross from Algeciras to Ceuta, which is a Spanish enclave embedded in the North of Morocco. After that I have a couple of weeks to explore and little planned other than a list of roads and tracks I'm keen to ride! Ill come out of Tangiers to Genoa in Italy and work my way back to UK from there! That's the plan! We’ll see how we go and how the weather and road treats us! Most of the big logistics are in place and excitement is rising! This trip is the next instalment of a series of trips celebrating the fact I can still do this! The report is the seventh write up of a slow burn round the world trip that so far has led to the following reports. In many ways these blogs become my journal and diary. 2015 - Burning Man and Beyond - http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/burning-man-and-beyond-three-months-in-the-us.1081126/ 2016 - Iceberg Dead ahead! – http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/iceberg-dead-ahead.1144880/ 2017 - OK I read the rules, so I am going to NZ (on and off) for a year! - http://advrider.com/index.php?threa...im-going-to-nz-on-and-off-for-a-year.1198148/ 2018 - Nunca haremos un giro a la izquierda! (Mexico to the Translab ....) - https://advrider.com/f/threads/nunca-haremos-un-giro-a-la-izquierda-mexico-to-the-translab.1293606/ 2019 – I come From a Land DownUnder! https://advrider.com/f/threads/i-come-from-a-land-down-under.1379406/which happened earlier this year after I saw the HU Hubb meeting in Perth was coming up so I called my old (literally!) riding buddy John C up (he lives in NZ) and suggested he buy a bike over here and come and join me! It ended up being somewhat more epic than first planned! 2019 The Big Leap (Canadian Arctic Circle to Norwegian Arctic Circle) - https://advrider.com/f/threads/the-big-leap-circle-to-circle.1390223/ which saw the bike travel from Tuktoyuktuk to England via Iceland, Faroes, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands. I will update as wifi and time allows and as usual it will be filled with pictures and a light narrative! (and a healthy smattering of typos and spellos!) There should be some great landscapes and bike porn pic opportunities as the trip progresses. Plus a few BOTD shots! (Beer of the Day!). Although it might need to be MTOTD (Mint Tea of the Day) in Morocco! My ride is a 2014 BMW 1200 which replaced the one that was killed in NZ on trip 3 .... I do try and stay on top of maintenance but the usual micro fails happen when you use the bike .... the biggest issue has been the front wheel which took a monster hit at the beginning of the trip to Mexico. A new wheel was installed last in Newfoundland (at vast expense!) and all is good. I was very nervous about trashing the new rim in Iceland but got away with it in spite of lots of off road. There is an oil change planned for next week in the UK and then I'm off!
