When times get bad, just think about going to work in an office everyday.
All seriousness aside, been waiting for you and Rad to fire up some crazy shiznit. This ought to be good.

So I made it to Punta Cana DR no problem.
I am now waiting for Rad to arrive.
    He arrives on Saturday.
I got here early because the flights were more expensive closer to the weekend. I am saving $250 in airfare by coming early. I figure it will be more than enough money to pay for the extra time here.
I rented a room on Airbnb. Twelve bucks a night - it beats camping in the city.
I am hoping to look at bikes tomorrow. And maybe hit the beach.

Punta Cana is a small city on the eastern coast. Is your motorcycle rental connection there ? The name means Point Cane in Spanish.

That might be an issue. Recently, Imgur stopped allowing photos to be uploaded on mobile devices. I am not carrying my laptop with me on this trip. So the photos might have to come later unless i can figure something else out.

Rad and I are considering buying instead of renting. I was told by a Haitian man yesterday that fled the country that the chances are the bikes will be stolen from us in Haiti. So if we buy inexpensive bikes, we can better control our total liability. I am going to go looking today and see what cheap bikes I can find for sale.
This RR might play out like one of those Top Gear episodes where they are given a small budget to buy a vehicle, and then take it to crazy places. But this trip will be done without support and a without a script.

These were the kind of bikes we saw in the DR. They were frequently ridden three up!

You might want to try locking the bikes with brake disc locks/alarms. There are Chinese ones (Xena copies) now that work well and only cost $22. I had one in Colombia recently and my friends there had never seen one. I am bringing a couple with me, for them, on the next trip. On an el cheapo drum braked bike you would have to find another place to attach it. Maybe the sprocket. The alarms are motion activated and quite sensitive and loud.

    Such a rookie
Of course the sound of their pistol blowing my brains out as they steal the bike will be louder than any alarm I could buy

I have had a bike stolen from me at knifepoint. But that was in Boston, not Colombia. I got it back about ten minutes later when I went after it with my .357.

With a direct confrontation the robber is generally better prepared than you, so you have to give up the goods. But I think theives are looking for easy targets. You don't want to be the easiest one.

Knowing you, I think you’re easily equipped to spot a bad situation and if you look poor, all the better. Anyway, the buddy system is always best and you two will be fine!
Cigars, coffee, exquisite beauties...all good in the DR! (And bring me a cigar (or 5) back with you)!
