Day 2 is in the books.
It started with some ED (bet you're glad I can't post photos yet)
    Rad's bike seized
    I found a unicorn
Rad got a flat and all the shops are closed on Sunday
And we went for a boat ride with the bikes.
It was a long 100 miles today.
We need to pick up the pace.
    The Rad-icle Ed-venture continues on

Ed, that's too bad, how's Rad's bike, (other than seizing) same issues?

I'm sure you'll figure something out.

Good luck and let the Edventures continue.

    David.

Regarding the charging situation, I asked a friend who's an electrical engineer and he bench tested a few ideas.

He took one of the 12VDC cigarette lighter to USB adapters and wired it to a variable DC Power Supply

At 6 Volts DC input it was able to power an iPhone, but would not charge it,

At 6.5 VDC it powered the device and started charging the phone, so if you can get at least 6.5VDC out of the bike somehow one of those lighter socket USB adapters should work.

If not buy a couple of potatoes and stick some wires into them, that should get you going.

I have a '6V' R69S, from 1968. '6V' is actually 7.2V, just like '12V' is 14.4V, when charging. A regular USB adapter like that pictured (I got mine from Aerostich) works to charge my Samsung Android phone just fine. You'll need to find a rectifier of some kind, like the bike had originally. And yes, the voltage for the lights is load-regulated, sort of, so a reduced load results in higher voltage.

Short update. Rad and I surrounded by girls.
    3 to 1 ratio here.
Bikes are running better than ever.
Or maybe we are just getting used to their deficiencies.
My bike is shifting on it's own
And Rad's brakes are barely working. He almost rear ended me today.
    Getting closer to Haiti.
    Ok, back to the party.

Glad to hear you are drowning in women instead.

BMW Motorrad stepped up and gave me a new factory BMW prototype to test in Haiti.
And KTM sent Rad a prototype to test as well.
My bike has Ohlins suspension and Rad has WP. These bikes are so much more fun to ride. But the media won't notice these test miles in Haiti.......because who goes to Haiti to ride motorcycles......photos will be posted once the embargo is lifted by the manufacturers

That's the ticket ! I was wondering how long it would take for the manufacturers to realize who their best salesmen are.

BTW. The KTM you inspired me to buy, as well as the Viaterra luggage, is now being featured in my new ride report -
A Month on a Bike in Colombia.

I think 3 million views, like you have, is a ways away though.

    Buena suerte, amigos

Funny as hell. Someone took the prototype joke seriously.

I am an owner of BMW and KTM products and think they are the best for their purpose. But the management of those companies is spending their promotion dollars wrong. Sponsoring tours with sag wagons and glitzy magazine ads does not sell bikes to me. Supporting real life adventurers like Ed and Rad would.

But send a prototype to Haiti with someone who is planning on having his bike stolen ? Not even BMW stuffed shirts are that dumb. If Ed and Rad return alive they should reconsider though.

You decide for yourself.........sneak peak pictures are posted on my IG page as well as Rad's.
We made into Haiti with the bikes. We have no plates or papers for the bikes and still got in. We got the whole thing on video. It was awesome. Our actions and methods were so perfect and not scripted. With hundreds of border crossings between us, we made a great team. Now that we are in, I can tell you, this is one fuxked up country. But there is beauty here, you just have to look at it with a different set of eyes.
I can't wait to tell the whole story and post photos..........aaaaah, maybe not the whole story. Besides you probably wouldn't believe it anyway. :-)
