I leave home around 10AM and make my way across the Phoenix Metro to the east. It's hot today - gonna push 110...

    Through a tunnel...

...and out the other side towards Globe.

The NMBDR start is a long way from me, so I figure I should try to have some fun while getting there. I join the AZBDR and head south on Pioneer Pass RD.

The bike is a 2017 KTM 690 Enduro R I recently built into an adventure bike. I have never owned
a thumper before, and have no idea if this bike will handle the type of touring I want to do. I've
ridden it as far as 150 miles in a single day, but that was before I added the fairing and larger tank.

Pioneer Pass RD was an easy climb up into the cooler pines...

...until it descended the south side and became more fun.

This was my first time to ride this road. It was a nice shake down test and still close to home.

As the road loses elevation, the desert scenery becomes very nice.

    The temps increase as well.

After a short stint with traffic on the highway through construction zones, I continued on the AZBDR following the San Pedro River. First on the fun and overgrown Camino Rio Road...

...then the long, wide, graded Redington/Cascabel Road.
