Haha, I know for a fact that guy is me :-D
I was talking to that guy on my way out on the 14th, saying that he should not warn bikes so much about the few rocky climbs, as about as the loose stuff.
On my way in to the lookout, I got a song about the difficult rocky steps 4 miles in, boy was I surprised when I hit the sand trying to make sunset.

Hello Dave, I have been checking out many of your ride reports. The combination of information and pictures makes yours some of the best!! Your Ride reports are very inspiring.

A friend and I have plans to ride the Arizona Strip for about a week from St. George, probably in early to mid June(hopefully, we can avoid rain). I am having trouble downloading your tracks. I keep getting an error message from Garmin BaseCamp. I can make my own tracks, but it is always nice to know for sure from actual trip tracks which roads are which and what type of trouble we might be heading toward.

Anyway, thanks again for all of your work putting these reports together. Maybe I could contact you when we get closer to June for some specific information.

    Well that sucks.
I was out there just a couple of years ago and just camped for the night. No hassles, no problems.
Now it seems like you have to have a permit for everything, paid in advance, signed in triplicate, and notarized.

    Girrr...

Hi @Everett49. Those tracks have been downloaded hundreds of times. That's the first I've heard they aren't working. I'm far from a GPS geek. I know they work in Garmin MapSource. You could ask around in the GPS threads or just wait a few weeks until I get the complete GCBAR Tracks ready for release. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Wishin' I was back out there. Recognize the helmet @Questor?

I've really enjoyed your ride reports, Dave. This is the third year in a row when the snow starts to fall here in NH that I've gotten deep into your stories, both the visual and the written. I admire the way you vary your photos, do all sorts of interesting things with them, including especially the HDR stuff. (That surreal photo of the old truck is fantastic.) I think I first came upon your reports through that HDR thread, so fun to read. I also got lost in your Alaska trip story--it took me days to get through it, because your photos tend to hold attention. There's something cool about the way you sequence them too, how they make a story. Normally my GS is under wraps this time of year but I will be working in LA from Jan through April and a couple of weeks ago shipped it to a BMW dealership there. I'll ride it in SoCal and then back east in April and May, and hope to follow some of your tracks. Again, many thanks for your generosity and kudos for your creativity.

It was reading this report years ago that redirected my moto-dreams. I put this route on my bucket list. I have since ridden a little taste here and there of this . . . but have yet to have a full week and a riding buddy available to do the loop. (I don't ride off paved alone). Of all the trips I've read about on ADV, ..... THIS is the one that sticks in my mind the most.

Thanks for the recent comments. It's great to hear some are still dreaming of riding these areas. I'll try to update the gps tracks for the GCBAR soon.

I've ridden the route twice more since this report.
