Any moving thing that I leave in my aluminium topbox or panniers gets black from the rubbing, besides the obvious using a bag, is there any way to clean the insides to stop this?

    thanks

Outdoor carpeting is one option, I used bunkbed carpet for boat trailers only because I was in the marine industry. Also some peeps have used self adhesive kitchen shelf stuff.
Paint is also an option but you really need to do it the right way by using aluminum primer and epoxy paint with the right prep work.... YMMV

I sprayed the insides of mine with truck bed coating. Be careful of the brand, some result in a rough surface. IIR the brand I used is from Duracolor, leaves a somewhat smooth pebbly surface.

Pickup truck bed coating as mentioned is the right direction/idea.
I would have tried plastidip but it will not be perfect and sharp things will punch through and may it flake. However this is its nature; it not permanent and can be removed if you dont like it.

You would have a lot of color choices with plastidip (white or clear comes to mind, to liighten up this hole).

    As per Rider1150 above.

Go to HD or Lowes and get the stick-on flooring carpet sections/squares. Their strip adhesive can be helped with a can of spray adhesive too. Did my bags in 2009 and they are still great after about 95K miles.

peel and stick flooring tiles, Contact peel and stick shelf liner, Liner bags
Paint or powder coat the inside.
Are all ways to help it, but uncoated aluminum will do that, it's even worse if there's any water in there.

a few pieces of strategically cut astroturf or outdoor carpet will work nicely. Might cut down on rattling and noises too. I’d assume clear coating the inside of the cases or painting would work too if the carpeting isn’t an option.

I had a set of Happy Trails panniers rinolined in white. Easy to see into case and no black sh*t on my stuff.

Go over the insides with some steel wool and spray them with some clear coat. Still look original but won’t leave aluminum residue.

I couldn't be bothered with creating a pleasing, clean solution, my aluminium top case has a bottom inlay and the rest I've just put gaffers tape on. I don't care how it looks, it works.
