I packed up and left Thursday afternoon, just in time to hit the beginning of rush hour traffic on the 91. Fortunately, the little DR350 is a good lane splitter and I probably spent about 15 miles riding between cages. The plan was to get up to Holcomb Valley Campground before dark and reserve a site next to Starchaser so the riders coming in on Saturday will have a place to stay. The campground filled up Friday night, so it was a good thing that we got hold of two sites.

Here is my DR350, all loaded with gear at the Camp site.

In the morning, I got up around dawn and went for a hike on a trail leading away from the camp ground. It heads off toward some meadows where I took a few photos and macro shots. I have no idea what most of these plants are.

The trail kind of faded away at this fence, so I back tracked toward camp.

Some Coyote tracks. We heard them out there at night.

I saw the trail to Two Gun Bill's Saloon and decided to go there and get a drink if they are open.

There was a nice pond nearby the trail to the saloon.

On the trail to Two Gun Bill's Saloon.

Well it looks like Two Gun Bill's Saloon has been closed for about a century or so.

The Saloon must have been built like a log cabin.

Note: I looked up Two Gun Bills Saloon and found out that this is actually an old log cabin and the saloon was 1.5 miles west of the cabin.

I went back to camp, woke up T, and we went riding around the nearby trails. He's been there a few times and knows the area a little.

Latter, we got caught in an afternoon storm and had to run back to camp because T left his rain fly open on his tent.

In the evening, I had to go into town and get some food and a fuel canister for my stove. The only store that reportedly had them was already closed at 6pm. The sign said they are open 11 AM to 5PM. On the way back I stopped to collect some downed wood with my midget hatchet.

T did not seem too surprised to see me roll in with that big load of wood on the back.

On Saturday Morning I had a little breakfast.

    Farmer John Sausage,
    [IMG]

    Chopped some leftover celery,
    [IMG]

    Folded up an Orikaso plate,
    [IMG]

Started cooking some eggs but ran out of fuel, so I borrowed a stove from T.

    Breakfast.

Later on after lunch a chipmunk was running around the campsite. When I moved to get my camera, he jumped into the fire pit to hide. Fortunately for him, there was no fire. :lol3

I did not know if he could get out so I put a log in there for him and waited for him to climb out.

Afternoon thunderstorms rolled in on Saturday, but not much rain.

In the afternoon I made a solo trip to look at some intermediate level single track. On the way I came through Jacoby Canyon (3N61).

    That was a fun ride.

After riding 3N61, I went over to look at the single track. It was in the Cactus Flats area which was full of kids on dirt bikes and quad-tards doing donuts. There was too much dust, too many people, and it was way too hot. I decide to turn around and head into town to get fuel for my stove.

After that, I cam back to camp, met Amber, Moose, and Aaron, and latter, the riders from LA. I took another ride with T in the evening. T stopped to check on a couple young ladies, one in flip flops, the other barefoot, to see if they were OK. After talking with them a while, it seemed that they were lost and sore so we got Amber to come out in the truck give them a ride back to their car.

Did not take enough photos on this ride Here's my last one on Clark's grade on the way home.

    Now back to the video!

Sunday, we headed back down the front side of the mountain. The fisheye lens on the video camera doesn't really give you the perspective of how tight some of these turns and switchbacks are. It also loses the reference on how steep climbs and descents are.

Yep it was a pinzgauer. They came and went like 3 times in the time I was there, like giving tours of the campground "on the left is how poor people RV" When I was driving up to the campsite I passed that guy AND a Unimog.

Then a bunch of decked out Landcruisers. I was starting to get worried thinking I was getting myself into the rubicon with my 2wd beastly pickup.

It wasn't quite a 'superhighway' :deal in the truck but it was a pretty good road.
