I too voted yes on your poll, because the poll did not ask where this happened. Never on advrider.com.

    not really

f-disk and reload, the nuclear option.

ghostery. privacy badger. adblock. chrome for the browser not explorer or edge.

    do the updates.

On your phone go through and look at what you don't use and get it off your phone. the latest android will show you app usage. if you have not used it in 6 months get rid of it.

Adsense and cookies, clear that out frequently as well. Things are constantly evolving in security and applications,

ADVrider as a site probably has little influence over what comes through there advertising slots. "If" it can be shown that a ad violated google's advertising rules and "captive portals" they probably could get that advertising group locked out of the cycle.

What was the advertisement that took over your screen? what where they selling?

Check the ask Baldy thread. It looks like they, Baldy, Rudy and Staff, are working on taking care of issues people are complaining about.

We have had it good for 17 years (I think that's how long ADV has been in existence). The site has been provided to us free and with out ads for all these years due to the generosity of Baldy and Smugmug. Now that Baldy is no longer with Smugmug if there wasn't a change he would be shouldering it all. There aren't many people who would have done this for 17 years much less continuing on. The financial part, all the hours he puts in to managing this site has to be huge then there is all the other stuff he puts up with. This place has it's ups and downs that require diplomacy and someone at the helm to make the hard decision. He has done this and I appreciate all he does and I'm glad he now has help. I also hope the adds and the paid subscriptions provide the finances to keep
ADV going and my favorite playground open for business.

Unlike AJ I do spend time on facebook however it's for fly by contact with friends, family, and acquaintances. I like the format of ADV for me it's easy to navigate and take up where I left off with threads. We are able to organize events and rides here easily (I find those type of things cumbersome on facebook and many other sites). Of course a lot of that might be me and not taking the time to learn other formats. Truthfully, I would be lost without ADV - yes I'm addicted to my favorite site.

No shame there, not in my life. There are LOTS of things that are waaaaaaayyyy more bad for us that we could be addicted to, LB !! At least with ADV, it gets us out to get some real riding exercise, for body and spirit. For some of the armchair/keyboard riders in ADV's basement, maybe not so much.

I understand @Mr Dual Sport being frustrated I suppose. Sad you left because you were such a big part of the PNWet. But what really bummes me out is that Avatar. Soo sad. I really miss the “tex winchester” guy he used to have. I hope he’ll be back.

Nope, not an iPad, iPhone, or Mac problem. I browse ADV on all three and never have an inkling of an issue. I do have AdBlock Plus running on my desktops. I do NOT use Tapatalk, and I am thinking that may be where OPs problem lies. I remember downloading it years ago to check it out and thought “Well this is a terrible way to browse forums!” Maybe it has gotten better though...

The confusing thing is that I have found it quite hard to accidentally get malware or spyware on my Apple products. I have used them exclusively for the last ten years as I run an audio/video production company (and also really like beautiful, sleek technology) and am a photographer. In all of those years where I am on a computer or device for probably twelve hours a day, I have never accidentally installed any of the aforementioned software and only found something installed once.

Anyways, I hope OP can figure out a way to continue here on ADVrider in a way that suits him. Perhaps he can reach out to one of us with more tech knowledge to help solve the issues he is having?

Guys and Gals old enough to remember actually talking face to face to others; person to person not device to device...leaving the 'social media' world is not the end of the world..someone used the term "quitter" ; to the contrary any of us that says enough is enough is taking responsibility for their lives without facebook, forums, instagram, tweeting, texting or emails...etc, etc...

Hey it is a beautiful world out there away from the addiction to electronic umbilicals ...or as my riding partner sez: "Lets ride!"....:brow

To each their own...wish I was smart enough to entirely un-plug....slowly getting there....and I could be wrong!

I believe that was a picture from his wedding day with Posum !! Yes, I miss it too.

Edit: Even Mr Dual Sport's new avatar is MUCH less disturbing than Zippy's ( @nk14zp ) avatar on the post above mine :uhoh

Popups are back, and an annoying ad from Lexus that won't let me scroll down page, it just keeps putting the screen back to the top, until I x the ad. Just like on Friday and Saturday and Sunday morning. On my Kindle.

I practically LIVE on advrider, using PC, tablet, and phone all chrome. I've never been hijacked here. It's one if the best browsing forums I've used.

Not sure how I would find riding buddies in meatspace....

I was getting the hijack thing. Bad at times. Not tapatalk, and using iPhone.
I reported it and gave screenshots.

It seems sorted for now. No problem for a few days now for me. So they are definitely trying to keep a balance and not have that kind of nonsense.

I miss a bit of the freewheeling days but it’s still the best site I know of for many reasons. In fact it’s really the only site I’ve stuck with all these years.

Wandered over from badweb one day for Ulysses info and that was all she wrote.

Usually log in several times a day (retired, bored, addicted - take your choice). I post a lot and I PM a lot. I had no idea that there was a problem until I saw this thread. I access using Chrome and Firefox on a desktop Mac and a laptop Mac. Like most Mac users, I have never used any anti-virus software on my Macs. Maybe it's a Windows thing.
