I finally get to race this weekend, but they are calling for 40F temps, which means very slow skiing.

I ride a motorcycle so I can get places WITHOUT raising my heart rate or breaking a sweat!:D

Actually I do Nordic ski and shoot and love to watch Biathlon (I'm not a good enough skier or marksman). I have watched high level athletes compete many times at the Olympic complex at Lake Placid. These are the most amazing athletes.

That is certainly not me. Looks like I will finally be able to race this weekend.

Finally got a race in this season. Cold out, about 10F but the sun was shining and no wind. Race was about 7 miles long. As expected I skied poorly due to nursing a bad ankle and just not that much time on the snow this year. Most gratifying part was I shot the best I ever have at 65% and cleaned one round of off hand, which I have never done before. It sure was nice skiing past that penalty loop!

I pruned the off-topic banter to head explody. As you were.

Last race of the season was today. I shot ok and skied like shit. Time to break out the bicycles and dirt bikes.

I'll continue this thread with myself next season...:D:D

Congratulations for doing it! You actually have enough snow there to ski? Not a good year for Nordic skiing here in New England. For example, this was taken today at the VT/MA border (38F). Supposed to reach 68F on Wednesday.

No, this was terrible year for natural snow. There is a small downhill ski area near me and I buy a pass every year, so I have snow to ski on, just in case we get a year like this. I just go up down the bunny hill area. The venue where we had the race today, also has a downhill area and snow makers. If it wasn't for that, it would have been cancelled.

Well it's that time of year again. For me to talk to myself about biathlon racing. We got our first snow last night and I got out for some practice today. Not really enough snow and it was too wet for any kind of glide, but I was able to carry and shoot.

Anybody else jump in over the summer?

Just came in from some training. Managed 88% standing which is the best I've ever done. Of course this was not in competition.

I'm still intrigued by this. And still surprised we've got nothing going with it where I live.

I have been scouting locations for my backcountry biathlon though. :D

On a given biathlon course, how many separate ranges are there usually? Do you do laps on the same ski course?

One range and you ski loops. The closest venues to you would be Duluth, Grand Rapids and maybe Madison.

We've got a biathlon loop a few miles from my house. As well, a former manager of mine coaches the local group. It looks like a lot a fun and a fantastic off-season cross train for cycling. But it's also purchasing equipment for two more activities that I have neither the time nor the space nor the money for.
One of these days I'll get out with him for a 1 day session!

I don't know about other clubs, but the WI club has loaner rifles for someone who does not own one. Still have to come up with your own skis.

US wins it's first world title and I had to bump this from the second page?!

    You're slacking @2whlrcr :D

Bonus, I now know which of my facebarf friends are biathlon fans.
