I think a few years ago a buddy and I were able to get up and over that hill, but it's a gnarly little spot and you have to be ready to hit it as I remember, steep and a few rock obstacles that want to take you out.

Sure looks like it to me. I think what makes it squirrely at times is the sand more than the ash. All the brush on the south side of the road is plowed away for a couple hundred yards, loose dirt that's left on top blows into drifts across the track.

Steep and rocky, could be the place. Giant "lookout" boulders up on top to play on? When I was there in Fall 2018, the roads to and from that one nasty section were pretty tame (a few ruts, occasional sand trap, deep puddle, or bypassable downed tree). That section seemed feasible going down (eastbound), but climbing it looked over my head. Didn''t get in that far today, but there sure were a lot of fresh ATV tracks on the parts I rode. Last time, it looked nearly abandoned on that side.

That's the good stuff right there. Gets dusty fast but hard to go wrong with how much varying terrain you get down there.

Bike needs fork seals, bars, and a front tire balance. It is not a 790 on the highway. But it sure isn't a 790 on the single track either...:D

Cory, I led a group from Doyle to Red Rock last Sunday in that brutal wind through our ash top soil crap, bad idea! it was totally airborne and seemed almost apocalyptic, like an end of the world movie...sucked.

Doesn't sound like fun but you did get away for a ride that's worth something these days.

Got in a big weekend on the 790. Mina/Luning/Berlin/Lahotan. I think around 700+ miles. Will post pics and a write up later in the week.

May try to ride up over Hennness out of Verdi to check out some camping spots around Stampede/Prosser/Boca Tuesday or Wednesday on the 450. PM me if interested in joining.

Looking for other dudes with big bikes that want to ride these days. Fairly open schedule as I work mostly nights. Down for street or fairly gnar dirt! Hate just seeing the big bike sit in the garage and the weather has been to good to not be putting down some miles other than on the small bike!

Intel on Soldier Meadows road in the Black Rock Desert? I'm considering a solo run from Denio to Gerlach.

Just did it two weeks ago on a 690 with 5050 tires. Road is good. A little wash boardy in places. Enjoy!!

Denio gas station often is out of fuel. About 30 miles north is Fields Oregon usually has fuel and good food. I haven't been there this year so recommend you call ahead and make sure fuel is available. The owners were talking about selling.

Last time I did Denio to Gerlach NV we had to back track to Fields when Denio was out of gas. From Fields we went down High Rock canyon on big bikes and did a 100 MPH run across the Black Rock Playa. I needed to add a quart of fuel to the 990 to make it to Gerlach.
