I am going to be riding the TAT this summer. I plan on riding the eastern sections in the spring/summer and riding CO/UT/NV/CA/OR starting August 30. There is actually a fairly small window to ride the TAT when you are not facing blazing temps in the desert or snow in the passes. Docking Pilot explains this well in his RR.
I am looking for people to ride with also. I will be doing the western sections on a DRZ400. I will be doing the eastern sections on either my KLR650 or SL175.

I started a Yahoo group to act as a place to share info and coordinate trips on the TAT. You can join here: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Transamericatrail/
I will do my best to moderate the group. I have found Yahoo groups to be useful for sharing info. Hopefully this group will be useful too, and not just generate spam. Unless people keep posts like this one bumped up they have a tendency of disappearing on the ADV forum.

The "doohickey" or balancer chain adjuster on the new KLR's is fine. It is 1 piece and will not break like the old ones would. The problem with the 2008 and later KLR's is that the spring is too long. It will coil bind and not provide the tension needed to tension the balancer chain during adjustment.
Eagle Mike can provide you with the correct spring.

    Cheers,
    Doug Walker

Hell no it won't be in till 2-15.. At least thats what the dealer said!! I don't know why I'm in such a hurry to get it, because its way to cold to ride it...Its seems like ever since I ordered it, the days are going by so slow:(: .. Don't worry as soon as I get it I will post pictures!!! So for now I'm counting the days...

There's a good thread in the "equipment" forum titled 'I want a boot that does it all".

The best part is all the planning of equipment and gear, then once you get on the trail you realize you have way to much stuff and weight.

Travel Lite, pleanty of places to stay, carry only things that will get you to town for help, tubes, cables, tube patches, gas, oil, rain suit, water, food, minimal tools. etc.

Only advise I can offer, ride to finish, dont ride to win the race. Take care of the machine daily and enjoy the great trip it is.

Good Luck, I may ride OK with you all on the old Vintage Bike if its not in the mountains somewhere.

Advise of questions and check out the reports for plenty of info. we did the satillite tracking thing and all. Bottom line is the ride itself, dont let all the little things get in the way of the ride.
