Had a few Shinko shimmies on the way home which freaked me out a bit but otherwise easy run up SH2 to Napier, over the hill to Taupo then Whakamaru Waipapa TeAwamutu (easily the most fun bit) and the glorious Waikato Expressway. Fastest part of the ride was the Auckland motorway...everyone was going quickish.

Thanks everyone who turned up. I really enjoyed meeting you all.

Ya beat me by 45 mins Oldbeer. I got caught in some decent rain between Pelorus and Nelson which took the shine off the ride home.
Thanks for taking the initiative and making it happen..

Ha! Well that must mean we picked the right spot then, as the two most distant attendees got home more or less the same time. Great to meet you and see in November with a bit of luck.

If the next ones in Reefton then you might just get home before me!!

Old Beer et al - sorry to be a ‘no show’ despite expressing interest. It transpired that this get together conflicted with the BMW Club ‘Rough as guts’ Rally held at Taylor Memorial Lodge, Pokaka on the Central Plateau an event I’ve been going to for the past 20 years. Rode up to National Park Friday. Did Fishers Track and a bunch of gravel roads South of Taumarunui. We camped at the Ngaharenga Campsite in Pureora Forest, Friday night. Despite having a four season bag it was very cold in the night. Awoke yesterday morning to heavy frost. Traveled the Turakina Valley both going to and returning from the Rally. Despite it being a BMW event we were joined by KTM 790s, a T7 and myself on my DR650SE. Cheers Oaters

Eketahuna Campground...highly recommended. newly refurbished facilities including spacious hot showers, well stocked kitchen and excellent hosts. All for $8 unpowered tent site. 2 cabins that look like they might need some love. Maybe next lockdown.

@KiwiPewe and @murphyKTM discussing whether orange works as a bike colour or not. The milk tankers dont slow down muych when they come through town. From the campsite you could hear them thundering past through the night, sounded like airplanes

No worries at all, see you next year maybe. It cleared up the day I left Taupo and I'm told that night there was a very heavy frost there so glad I moved south when I did. Glad you enjoyed your weekend.
