I believe those are the shinko tires. There are alot of reviews on themif you look around. personally I'll probably never buy them again. I put a set on my bike and the tread started to separate on the front after a couple thousand miles. Gave the rear tire to my brother with a warning, after a few more thousand his tread started to bubble up as well. these tires have earned a well deserved reputation as dangerous failures, I'm amazed they are even still allowed to legally sell them.

Yes they are Shinkos - [edit] they are Shinkos but rebranded http://www.fullboretires.com/adventuretouring.html

but you're operating on outdated information about the Shinko 705 failure rate. I had 2 sets of the early bias-ply versions, had some problems but no drama since I was aware and looking for the warning signs. And anyway they were dirt cheap. Wouldn't buy the bias again but liked them enough to try the new RADIAL version. Love them, no problems at all and 30% (or more) cheaper than TKC's.

Big thread in BEASTS about them.

I may try the Heidenau on my Super Tenere when they (both) become available, in the hope of extended tire life. BUT they will be way more expensive than the Shinkos, and if things don't work out I'll be going back to them.

Red....the Full Bore tires were available from reiffendirect.de when I bought my Karoo T's, but more expensive. The site listed them as an American brand and when I checked their website there was very little technical details - I wasn't comfortable giving them a crack until I've met somebody that can give me some first hand experience. Good luck.

Interestingly the full-bores show a V rating on that second link.

Are the Shinko radials V rated now?

This is an ad link. It says "H Rated"

I have at least another 4 weeks before all the snow and ice here in North East Sweden is gone, so will wait until then and hopefully the Scout rear will be available then. If not, I will try the Full Bore and see what happens :)

The threads look similar to the Shinko in pattern but different in size?? Are they def the same tyre??

Tread pattern is reversed..If one of those pics was upside down, the tread would be very similar.

Same factory in China - Shinko and Fullbore are made at the same factory, just the sidewall branding is different.

I emailed the Fullbore HQ. Got a prompt reply. Said this:

So Folks, it's basically the same tire, with a "slightly" more open tread. I saw em online, two tires for about $165 [free shipping] at www.kgmotorcycletires.com. Not concerned with the V rating, since my Wee isn't a V-rated bike......H-rated fo' sho', or I like to think it would go that fast!

I might give these a go, for I was already interested in the Shinkos. And, I do think that Fullbore is a much better looking name have on yer sidewalls - not that it really matters, but hey!

More open is what I was thinking from the pics. Since the Shinko was more open than the Tourances to begin with, who knows? This might be a dirt worthy experiment. I was up last time on the Kendas. So whose turn is it this time?

Amania, I'd do it :D but I just put on a Bridgestone TW152 rear and that will last me a month or two. Somebody has got to be needing a tire now.

My bike can't use the V rating (I wish) but I am intrigued by the difference in rating between that and the Shinko. Does that mean that the tread being more open gave it that rating? :huh That makes no sense to me. Or maybe the compound is slightly different, too?

I like the way the Shinko performed in the dirt. The best of the street oriented tires to me.

First, can you remind us what happened with the Shinkos?

Second, shouldn't you just change out tires for the good of the people?

    I'm with you.
The open tread can't be what gives it its V rating, right? You'd think an open tread would only heat more. It must be compound or carcass.

But we'll know when you post triumphant photos from your next multi-thousand mile journey or of your wadded up bike on the side of the road with you flipping off your blown up tire. :evil

Not sure about the V rating but they look like Shinko 705 to me. In Canada Shinko comes from Full Bore distribution channels.

Personally I like the tire front and rear. I was warned to pump em hard, 36-38 front and 42 minimum in the rear. The first rear ran 5000 miles on pavement on a fully loaded GS. My son and I did the east coast and back but it was toast when we returned. I wasn't surprised as it was hot and we ran a steady 80mph for days. The front is still in great shape after a second Shinko that ran to Florida and back this spring. I put it on the pile for use later.

Pay close attention on longer trips

I love how readily we are willing to use Slowoldguy as a guineapig for this experiment.
