My wife's looking for a new bike and the 650 is most likely going to be he one. When we do multi day trips she usually uses a set of SB-900 soft panniers. On her strom I had made a support bracket to keep the bags out the rear wheel and the stock heat shield kept it off the exhaust.

I'm wondering if there's going to be a simple way of rigging these bags to a 658. Anybody done it yet?

I'm also wondering if anyone had put one of the cheapo JCWhintney top boxes on one of these bikes yet. How well does the "universal" plate that comes with these cases fit?

    Thanks

Thanks guys. Has anyone taken a KLResk approach and mounted bags without buying a rack? I've got saddle type bags that are supported by the seat.

    Yes I'm a cheap as bastard :lol3

I've throw a couple sets of bags over my GS8's seat and they have all contacted the pipe. You're gonna need some kind of bracket on the left side if you don't like the smell of toasted nylon. The SW-Motech system is a nice set-up, but kinda pricey for just holding a soft bag away from the bike. Moto-sport panniers has some racks for the F800GS that are probably cheaper, though not as easy to remove.

I had these on my F650GS Dakar and now use 'em on the 8GS (also fit the 658).
