I wonder if Aprilia have finally improved their stators?

for the sake of accuracy... they've never had a problem with their stators. The same exact stator is used on lots of other bike models without issue. The problem was that the magnets on the flywheel were too strong, and that was fixed several years ago.

So what is class leading performance? Is this something to spin up more than a 600 super sport? Or more than an sv650?

Are we talking 110ish high rev hp at the wheel or more like 75 understressed street tact-able?

    Leading what class?

I'm not in the market for a new bike so my interest is simply as an Aprilia fan. But I didn't even think about HP numbers. I assumed it would be adequate. The bike is interesting to me primarily thinking it will be a middle weight that will handle and brake like an Aprilia.

I'm glad to see Aprilia make a middle weight bike. Knowing Aprilia, the chassis should be excellent.

I am an Aprilia fan and currently have an RS125 for the track. I am excited about seeing an RS660 as this would be a nice step up for a track bike. I sort of have mixed feelings about this tuono 660 because if I was looking for a bike for the street a Tuono would be on the list, but if I am going to get a street bike I would just get the Tuono 1100 factory, which is by all accounts a brilliant bike.

But that's just me. I have a limited skill set and probably more money than sense.

I replaced the stator on my 2nd-gen Tuono V2. Easy enough job but a common repair. Most go with a Rick's unit as an upgrade. When I bought the Tuono V4, I read that owners were experiencing the same issues but that Aprilia supposedly addressed the problem with a new flywheel beginning with the 2014 model year. Well, my 2015 Tuono's stator fried by 9K miles. When I removed the stator cover, I discovered that the flywheel was not the updated version. I purchased the Rick's stator/updated flywheel combo from AF1. Removing the flywheel was a pain, requiring a special puller and breaker bar (I'm not as strong as I used to be). In any case, the Tuono's charging fine now but time will if the fix is permanent.

And yet I like Aprilia bikes, having owned four of 'em. And the 660 does look cool!

My licensed 17 yr old is anxiously awaiting pics of the 660 Tuono... he's pretty positive that'll be the one to replace his 390 Duke next summer. :D

Red wheels are a bit loud for me though.

I'd like the white black and gold paint scheme of a 2009. :thumbup
