    Hey Gruvers et all;
Any room in this party for a true flatlander, it has been scientifically proven that Kansas is flatter than a pancake.
I am considering making a trip up north to Inuvik this June and my timing would coordinate with the Dempster Dash.

Kansas to Inuvik----great ride. Up hill all the way. Should make good time going home. See you in Dawson......we're easy to find. Buncha old guys sitting on the boardwalk across from the Downtown hotel.

One of our original gruvers is from Kansas. A great guy. Look for Rick wearing a worn out Jayhawks hat and a well worn Aerostitch. On a 92 R100PD Teal/White. You two can play "do you know ______?" :D

Thanks for the welcome and the willingness to let me tag along.
I will not be bringing Dorothy or Toto as they prefer to travel by twister... but I will see if I can find my Ruby slippers and bring them, if it will make me fit in better. I guess if I get in trouble I could always slip them on and chant "there's no place like home, there's no place like home". I may have to bring Kansas goods for the homesick Kansas transplant. I wonder if some Kansas City BarBQ ribs would make it that far? Most likely not I'll be hungry by Montana.

I am sure I will ask lots of questions, but I'll start off with some basics. I've read some of the posts but may have missed some details, does the Dash begin in Dempster on June 14th?
Is there some place in Dempster you would recommend for lodging both before and after the Dash? I will have the camping gear but a room every now and then is good. Do the Gruvers camp or motel it.
I look forward to meeting and riding with you. I should also say that I do not want to slow any of you more experienced Great White North riders down on your Dempster Dash by having a novice tag along, so if needed I can "ride my own ride"

Great questions JB. Let me see if I can help.
At last count there will be about 6 or 8 Gruvers/Pterodactyls holding court in Dawson City, YT, Monday night. (6/13) We stay at the Downtown Dawson Hotel.
Tuesday (6/14) mid-morning we will head out to the Klondike Junction, top the tanks and head to Eagle Plain for Tuesday night. We plan to stay in the hotel/lodge.
Wednesday (6/15) We roll into Inuvik, check out the new (to us) Pizza Hut
and camp at a little spot south of town. If the weather is shitty we will try to find a room or two in town. We'll play that one by ear.
Thursday (6/16) we dash back to Dawson and link up with the D2D riders.
Again our host will be Little Dick, the owner of the Downtown Dawson Hotel.
Dick is currently planning on going to Inuvik with us.
We stay in Dawson Thursday and Friday night and depart to Tok, AK for Saturday night at the Golden Bear.
Keep in mind that camping is available at/near all of these locations.
Phone numbers for the hotels have been posted on the D2D site and maybe AKRider will see this and re-post.

I appreciate your comment about "riding your own ride" It goes without saying that we all will be doing that. We will not know the condition of the Dempster until we show up.
Horror stories about "issues" on the "Dumpster" would fill a book. I'm certainly not interested in adding another chapter.
    Stay tuned... Fighter :deal

    More flatlander questions???

Are there any services available in Dawson for purchasing and changing tires?

Does anybody have any experience with shipping tires from the lower 48 into Dawson?

I will be leaving Seattle June 6 for the Great White North. I plan to tour around as far as the Dalton to Arctic Circle around the 12th, then to Tok and Dawson for the two night option on the 16th and 17th. Watch for a Silver 1150GS with a few extras added with Washinton plates.
