The market is flooded with 950 and 990s. I just picked up a 2006 for $2000 that has 78k miles. The release of the 790 brought down the value big time.

For two grand, I'll ride mine until parts aren't available or I can't climb aboard. Plus there is nothing out there I have any interest in.

Just purchased one for 3200€. So they still sell, but the price, at least in Europe, seems to be going down

the price is going down,,,, i willl be selling my 07 soon and i plan on 4k tops.

its not just the 790, but the T700, and smaller bikes are also playing a role, especially the 701. guys out there like me who are ready for a lighter bike and letting the beasty go.

Prices of nice ones are pretty steady around here and have been for the last few years, probably because low-mile examples are getting thin on the ground. Well used bikes, even if they are set up well, have plummeted pretty thoroughly though, especially 950s. I still don't see many asking for less than $5000 in the midwest unless they are very high miles, but the market has always been different here vs. the coasts due to seemingly more limited supply.

Was wondering why I’ve been seeing so many of them for sale here and on CL.

It’s a badass bike, no doubt, but there are other badass bikes to be had, apparently.

I'm very interested in the 790R, but need to wait until they are a couple years old, cheaper, and hopefully de-ABSed etc. In the near term, I'm kinda keeping an eye out for a long travel bike to buy in addition to my existing. I want a solo travel long legs, and a two up short legs. Im a big fan of backup bikes, makes it easy to get one back on the road. My spare trials Moto gets raided often, though parts for them are harder to come by.

Just bought my 13 990 baja with 4000km this spring and have no regrets. I love this bike now that I have it set up. It got a character to it that I do not feel on any other street legal bike. It a little big and kinda heavy for a dirt bike but still goes off road really well and it rips like a sportbike on the road. And the exhaust sound is so addictive. The bike just ask to ridden hard and like it and a little rough around the edges. I also like it got no ABS/traction Control to go wrong and you have to respect the power.

The market is saturated with Adventure Bikes. I saw an Africa Twin sitting next to an 1190, 1290, 990 and 1200GS ADV last week in the local "BIG 4" dealership used section. They've been sitting there gathering dust for the summer while the new 1250 brings the masses to their knees. My sad little 950 is still the best bike ever.

The 1x90 and 790 look like a vstrom to me. I understand you can't see the bike when you're riding it but it still leaves me cold. To me the 950 is an iconic design, like the Ducati 916. Plus I don't have new-bike-itis (well, except for a FI counterbalanced 250xc-w).
